This was really fun to play. The different art styles and tight narrative come together to create a really unique experience. I particularly loved the protagonist's sprites. The Easter eggs were also a nice touch.
I'm not a big fan of this game for one reason. Beyond the bear cave is a troll creature that if approached gets you booted from the game. I don't think any game (no matter how good) should have an encounter that crashes the game for whatever reason. It's not funny, just annoying and stupid.

A charming little game. I liked the atmosphere, the premise and the mini-games. The ending wasn't a big surprise, but that's partly because the unravelling of the story makes it clear where things are going. The artwork styles, while individually attractive, looked very strange all jumbled together. This would be a key thing to fix in order to make the game appear more polished: select one art style to use throughout. I did encounter some glitches. (Developers, please see notes at the end.) On closing the game to reset it, I lost my progress, so I ended up watching the ending on Youtube to save repeating all my steps. If you have a little patience for the game lacking polish and having some glitchy moments, I recommend trying it out and giving support to the talented enthusiasts who have put hard work into making it. If bugs are going to annoy you, give it a miss. Glitch info - The exclamation marks showing where to go next were sometimes in the wrong places, for example there was one over the school for almost the whole game. Some dialogue came out incorrect (the hunter when standing next to the bear.) Like another reviewer, I ended up with a dialogue box stuck over the screen (it was the vicar's rather than Pah's). I closed the game to try to get rid of this, thinking it would save my progress since it had said "saving" throughout. However, it started me from the beginning again (from the point where the protagonist first talks to Sofya).
Great prototype of what could be. With enough work, the story is already there. Just needs a lot of polishing and thought! Good job!
Malyshka is one of those games that has you questioning how it has so little attention. A small easter egg nestled deep within the distant mountains carries an ominous energy until you approach for it to be a small letter from the developers. Run around at your own pace or follow the story and you'll steadily begin to piece together your memory and your Matryoshka doll. The beautiful art style is accompanied by a growing feeling of sorrow and unease with each step you take towards the resolution of your story. Although short the game is filled with lovable and less pleasantly-inclined characters that will have you feeling for the town of Tikhiyavoda right before the game wrenches your heart out of your chest and shatters it. Although I'm known for being relatively soft when it comes to stories of grief it brought me to tears in a way that felt special.
Fun little game. Has a good story book feel to it, and the 2D artwork for the characters and 3D pop-up book buildings enhance the feeling.
