For early access, this feels like a working, and fun proof of concept to kill a few hours on. I hope the developer continues work on this, and isn't afraid to break the mould of its inspiration. Generally the melee and proximity weapons don't feel so good. They should scale better because they can only reach a limited part of the screen, whereas ranged is superior due to how many enemies are affected. A different skill system, like Noita, or Path of Exile, could really help this game stand out. (active skills augmented by dropped items/gems - basically the FF7 materia system), with the strategy coming from finding synergy between the active and the passive supports) Something like: x support gem leeches life of chosen skill x support causes projectiles to explode on contact x support causes knockback (melee or ranged) x support causes a multicast, multiattack x support casts spell on taking damage, with damage bonus. (Imagine intentionally walking into a large pack in order to nuke it, or having one spell cast another when it expires). Something that changes the skill behavior, rather than the same skill doing the same thing every playthrough. Currently a player's strategy is to collect all the active weapons they think are best to fire automatically while you manage movement, and it scales exactly like other games. Recommended, but its not innovative.
I picked up this game for 1/7th of my hourly salary because a little birdie told me that the vampire survivors dev went back in time just to copy Maku, so it's a inaccurate to call Maku a "clone" of vampire survivors. This game is kind of like that game, but with bad asf pixelated anime girls, a dope soundtrack, and artstyle, so clearly this comes out on top. Pros: -> Very fun gameplay loop -> Amazing artstyle -> Hubba bubba -> Maku -> Runs on literally anything -> Good character selection & levels -> Great music Cons: -> No Linux build ;( but works fine over proton/steamplay -> Not a huge weapons selection -> Frankly not enough Maku Pick it up if you can, this is fire and I plan on beating it when I get the chance.
I played the game. very promising. A little simple with one hero(plasma) and harder with others. I bought upgrades with gold(5k8 grab) but it don't seems they're working (i had to be near the gems to catch them at the beginning of a game. More stage and more weapons will be good too. It would be good in the future to have an infinite stage with increasing diffulty.
Seems better now
Vampire survivors.
