The original Lust from Beyond is an Adult Only experience. The M Edition is the same game tastefully tailored for a wider audience. M stands for the new Mature rating, but also for the many motifs of the Lust universe. The omnipresent Mystery, the iconic Masks, and overwhelming Madness.
The M Edition contains the following changes from the Adult Only edition:
Nudity has been covered by outfits appropriate to the themes and setting.
Some scenes have been rearranged to keep their meaning but reduce the explicit factor.
Some animations, scene framing and models have been changed to meet the Mature rating requirements.

Sums Steam only; GOG publishes no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.

Lust from Beyond: M Edition is a psychological horror adventure developed by Movie Games Lunarium and published by Movie Games S.A., offering a modified version of the original Lust from Beyond designed to reach a wider audience by removing explicit adult content while preserving the unsettling narrative and disturbing atmosphere. The game blends first-person exploration, puzzle solving, and survival horror elements with heavy inspiration drawn from cosmic horror and dark psychological themes. Set in a world where forbidden rituals and ancient entities lurk beyond human understanding, the experience focuses less on conventional combat and more on narrative immersion, disturbing imagery, and the gradual unraveling of a deeply unsettling mystery. The story follows Victor Holloway, a man haunted by disturbing visions of a strange and terrifying realm known as Lusst’ghaa. These visions plague his dreams and gradually begin to intrude into his waking life, pushing him toward the edge of sanity. Desperate for answers, Victor begins investigating the origin of these visions and soon becomes entangled with a mysterious cult known as the Church of Ecstasy. What initially appears to be a secretive group dedicated to enlightenment quickly reveals itself to be something far more sinister. As Victor delves deeper into the cult’s rituals and ideology, he uncovers a hidden reality where human desires, ancient gods, and forbidden dimensions intersect in horrifying ways. The narrative slowly reveals that Lusst’ghaa is not simply a hallucination but a tangible dimension inhabited by alien entities that feed on human emotion and obsession. Gameplay unfolds from a first-person perspective and focuses primarily on exploration and puzzle solving. Players navigate through a variety of environments including Victor’s home, the cult’s mysterious headquarters, underground chambers, and eventually the grotesque otherworldly landscapes of Lusst’ghaa itself. Each location is filled with environmental storytelling, documents, and clues that gradually reveal the larger mythology behind the cult and the dimension they worship. Puzzles range from mechanical contraptions and symbol-based locks to more abstract challenges involving manipulation of objects or deciphering ritualistic patterns. These puzzles serve as a pacing mechanism, encouraging players to carefully explore their surroundings and piece together the disturbing lore of the world. Unlike traditional horror games that rely heavily on combat, Lust from Beyond: M Edition places emphasis on vulnerability and atmosphere. Encounters with hostile entities do occur, but players are often encouraged to evade danger rather than confront it directly. Stealth sequences require careful movement and observation as monstrous creatures roam certain areas, creating tense moments where players must hide, distract enemies, or find alternate routes. These segments heighten the feeling of helplessness and reinforce the game’s survival horror tone. The lack of conventional weapons also emphasizes the psychological aspect of the experience, as players must rely on awareness and clever navigation to survive. One of the most distinctive aspects of the game is its visual design, which draws heavily from the works of H.P. Lovecraft and H.R. Giger. The world of Lusst’ghaa is depicted as an organic nightmare where architecture, flesh, and alien biology merge into surreal and disturbing forms. Corridors twist in unnatural shapes, structures appear to breathe and pulsate, and grotesque statues loom over ritual chambers. Even mundane environments gradually take on unsettling qualities as the influence of the other dimension begins to seep into reality. The game’s art direction creates an oppressive and deeply uncomfortable atmosphere that plays a major role in sustaining the horror throughout the experience. Sound design also contributes heavily to the overall mood. Ambient noises, distant whispers, and unsettling musical cues accompany exploration, reinforcing the sense that something unnatural is always lurking just beyond perception. When the player enters the alien dimension, the audio becomes even more distorted and surreal, amplifying the sense of stepping into a world that defies human logic. The voice acting, particularly for Victor and several cult members, helps deliver the narrative with an appropriate level of unease and desperation. While the M Edition removes explicit adult scenes from the original game, the themes of obsession, desire, and forbidden pleasure remain central to the story. Rather than focusing on explicit imagery, the censored version relies more on psychological suggestion and disturbing symbolism to convey the cult’s philosophy and the nature of Lusst’ghaa. For many players, this version actually strengthens the horror aspects of the game by allowing the atmosphere and narrative to take center stage without relying on graphic shock value. However, the game is not without its flaws. Movement can occasionally feel slightly stiff, and some puzzle sequences may frustrate players due to unclear objectives or limited guidance. The stealth mechanics, while effective at creating tension, can sometimes feel repetitive when players are forced to replay sections after being detected. Additionally, the pacing of the story occasionally slows during extended exploration sequences, which may test the patience of players expecting constant action. Despite these issues, the strength of the narrative and the uniqueness of the world design often compensate for these mechanical shortcomings. What ultimately makes Lust from Beyond: M Edition stand out is its commitment to creating a disturbing and immersive horror experience rooted in cosmic dread. Rather than relying on jump scares or action-heavy gameplay, the game focuses on psychological tension, unsettling environments, and a narrative that gradually reveals the horrifying implications of Victor’s journey. The story explores themes of temptation, curiosity, and the dangers of pursuing forbidden knowledge, echoing many of the classic ideas found in cosmic horror literature. Overall, Lust from Beyond: M Edition is a haunting and atmospheric horror adventure that offers a unique blend of psychological storytelling and surreal world design. While it may not appeal to players seeking fast-paced action or traditional survival horror mechanics, it delivers a memorable experience for those who appreciate narrative-driven horror and deeply unsettling environments. Its Lovecraftian inspiration, disturbing art direction, and immersive atmosphere make it a standout title within the niche of psychological horror games. Rating: 7/10

I really loved this game, was awesome. Got me scared a few times and the story was more than decent, but the game has 2 big minuses. - No chapter menu selection, so you cannot replay a chapter. If you miss something start the game from zero. - No restart chapter. There is a restart button but it will restart you at the last autosave checkpoint which mean zero. But besides these two big minuses, still recommend the game, is very nice.
Short Review & Rant: "This version is tailor-made for players who enjoy the mystery, atmosphere, and narrative of Lovecraftian horror but aren't too keen on explicit content. And... well, it's the first time I've seen a description for a censored version phrased so euphemistically. For those who don't fancy long reviews, you can stop reading here. Detailed Review: This game is a modified, 'harmonized' version of Lust from Beyond (Chinese title 《超越欲望》), a Cthulhu-themed horror adventure released in February last year, itself a sequel to the developer's 2018 title Dark Desire. The M Edition aims to provide a better experience for a broader audience by toning down the game's more overtly disturbing elements. It alters or removes some of the most grotesque and explicit scenes/CGs from the original, reducing potential discomfort for players . The environmental atmosphere, soundtrack, and voice acting are quite commendable. The graphics show a noticeable improvement over the previous installment, the story is immersive, and the thematic elements strongly evoke its core inspirations. As a horror adventure, its distinct characteristics are noteworthy. Many players mistakenly assumed the original was a 'porn game' and were unpleasantly surprised. Having had the chance to experience this new version early, I hope this review proves helpful. Background: The game is set in an alternate reality where a mysterious cult, the Cult of Ecstasy, worships Lusst'ghaa, the deity of desire, who rules over a parallel dimension called Lusst'ghaa beyond our reality. Believing all creatures should indulge in carnal pleasure, Lusst'ghaa controls the minds of its followers, mutating them into monsters obsessed with gratification. The cult's creed is total immersion in desire. The protagonist, Victor Holloway, is an antique shop owner in the real world. His seemingly perfect life—thriving career and love—is disrupted by persistent nightmares and sudden, violent pursuits. To uncover the truth and free himself from these bizarre dreams, he is forced to infiltrate the cult. In the early to mid-game, Victor encounters a crucial organization: the Crimson Knot. Founded by his psychiatrist, Dr. Austerlitz, its initial goal was to disillusion the public about the Cult of Ecstasy, destroy it, and sever the influence of the otherworld on reality. However, corruption from that same otherworld warped Austerlitz's mind, ultimately transforming the Crimson Knot into a fanatical organization scarcely better than the cult it sought to oppose. Cthulhu & Lovecraft: Most elements draw inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft's works, particularly The Call of Cthulhu, fused with the theme of "desire" to create the world of Lusst'ghaa and its mutated creatures. The artistic style of the monsters is heavily reminiscent of Lovecraft's creations. Perhaps intentionally by the developers, these in-game monsters share conceptual and thematic links with the Cthulhu mythos. For instance, the Dark Young of the powerful outer god Shub-Niggurath are implied to be ancestors of humanity in the mythos; similar figures in the game symbolise biological origins. The game's models borrow forms inspired by Lovecraft, while its worldview and plot borrow his philosophical soul—pointing toward the ultimate meaninglessness of existence, a core tenet of Lovecraft's work, where human efforts are futile, and glimpses of cosmic truth lead only to ruin or madness . The human protagonists in his stories often serve merely as observers, unable to influence the supernatural events unfolding around them. Gameplay Experience: • Stealth, Skill Tree, 'Power Fantasy': The gameplay de-emphasizes direct combat, as the protagonist is relatively weak. The lack of powerful weapons, low health, and persistent enemy AI encourage stealth. Even acquiring a knife feels ineffective compared to protagonists in other survival horrors—Victor can't even run while attacking. This weaponized impotence heightens the fear, oppression, and helplessness. In Lusst'ghaa, Victor is initially unarmed (and likely unclothed), but can find special items that function like skill points, allowing minor upgrades to speed or health. While limited, it's better than nothing. Later, his girlfriend Lily leaves him a gun, drastically shifting the power dynamic. This shift to a more empowered state feels less like bland overpowering and more like a cathartic release from the prolonged压抑 and frustration of being prey. Shortcomings: 1. Questionable Models: While most environmental and creature models are decent, serving the atmosphere well, the model for the girlfriend is notably poor—lifeless eyes, awkward features—making intimate scenes in the original version unintentionally jarring. 2. Visual Effects: Victor's dizziness upon seeing corpses or grotesque scenes translates to a shaky, distorted camera view for the player, which can be uncomfortable. Thankfully, this can be mitigated with in-game medicine. 3. Frustrating Puzzle Mechanics: A significant drawback is the poorly designed puzzle system. The inability to review dialogue logs and a general lack of clues beyond occasional highlights are notable flaws. Furthermore, the abundance of interactable objects that yield nothing creates unnecessary anxiety and irritation . Note on Translation: The provided Chinese text contained some informal expressions, typos, and gaming community jargon. The translation above aims to convey the original meaning, tone (including critique and sarcasm), and context in natural American English, adapting phrases like "阉割版" to "censored version" / "M Edition" and "黄油" to colloquial equivalents like "porn game" where appropriate, while maintaining the structure and key points of the original review .
Lust from Beyond > Lust for Darkness
This game reunites all themes I like in a horror game (erotism, occultism, other dimensions, victorian style). I would wish for more games in this series, because I've already replayed the games 2-3 times each.
Yv'h lauv'abrarc, Yv'h Lusst'ghaa! ~
