pointing directly at the devs. i know what you are (transgender paradox gamer) In seriousness: A very lovely experience! Like. It is very unambiguous in that it's doing Disco Elysium but with transgender furries, but the thing is I find there's a transformative aspect in that? Like, Disco becomes a different yet recognizable thing when it's explicitly about queerness and the alienation and joy that comes with that. Telling all my weird gay friends to play this game, because we need more works like these! they need to be seen! i went and bought this game on itch as well! The best feeling I get from a work of art is when I finish something and get left with a feeling like, I can make this! I can make something like this! Anyway this is another nudge towards me getting back to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ writing my 1970s poland alt history transgender coming of age visual novel.
"Time doesn't just have an arbitrary cut off point, Ghost. It keeps going and it never ends."
Lovely Lady RPG is a lot and in the best way possible. Do you want sapphic vibes ("A crusade against lesbians feeling sad.") in an alternate-history world (which doesn't feel that alternate, painfully so) where similar matters are demonised as today, with helpful and unhelpful voices in your head (relatable really), while everything ends up feeling so real and relatable that you will either smile or tear up from happiness, feel seen, called out or hurt by darker moments, be able to just take a breather and exist peacefully with the beautiful art and writing, or go full simping mode, to which I say, understandable, and girl, same. For context, my wifey bought me this game, without even knowing really what it was about, which somehow ended up meaning so much more to me than either one of us expected. I jumped into the game without reading too much about it because of how weird and different it was, not expecting for so many moments to feel as if the writing just puts its hand in my brain and pulls out things which normally I wouldn't be able to do in games or even express or understand myself. As a trans girlie, seeing how Lovely Lady RPG makes everything feel grounded and human (animal in this case? loving it even more) is something which is criminally underrated. There's no ideal or perfect. Things are messy. Feelings, thoughts, reactions, people, interactions and simply living day-to-day. There will be angst and there'll be whimsy. Where you start in the game as more or less a blank slate, there's sufficient background for Ghost to not feel hollow, while also allowing you to embody Ghost and to feel like it's you alongside everyone else. I can go on ranting for much longer and I didn't even get to touch on characters, history, social aspects and everything else. Overall though? Criminally underrated, something that (with the right people) I'll always recommend, fully embracing the mentality of: "Pretty lady. Simple as." - Ghost
thank god for our gender affirming healthcare workers! ^_^
Nice quite replayable VN that combines some really good characters with an interesting blend of contemporary writing+alt history setting. I enjoyed the variety and occasional intensity of the art, as well as the player character's slightly chaotic internal voice(s) which gave the queer narrative a more imperfect and relatable feel from what you might expect.
