Leviathan: The Last Day of the Decade - лучшая игра в жанре визуальных новелл. Атмосфера мира проработана на высшем уровне, диалоги интересно читать, сюжет великолепный. В общем, ни капли не жалею о покупке этой игры.
Leviathan: The Last Day of the Decade is a dark and unusual narrative adventure that combines the structure of a visual novel with detective investigation, point-and-click exploration, puzzles, and supernatural fantasy. Developed and published by Lostwood, it takes place in a bleak world shaped by disease, aristocratic privilege, political corruption, and strange supernatural forces. Rather than relying on constant action, the game builds its appeal through atmosphere, dialogue, mysteries, and the gradual discovery of disturbing truths surrounding its characters and society. The story takes place in a country devastated by a deadly pandemic and governed by an undead ruler known as the Plague King. Five powerful noble families dominate society, creating an environment where status can determine whether someone receives justice or escapes responsibility entirely. Against this background, the protagonist becomes consumed by a deeply personal investigation involving the murder of his mother. Years of searching eventually lead toward a suspect, but bringing that person to justice is far more complicated than simply finding evidence. Wealth, family influence, emotional attachments, and personal relationships all interfere with what might otherwise have been a straightforward pursuit of revenge. One of the strongest aspects of the experience is how successfully the setting supports the mystery. The world mixes dark fantasy with touches of steampunk, political drama, supernatural creatures, social inequality, and aristocratic decadence. The pandemic gives the environment an additional sense of danger and deterioration, while the presence of daemons and other unnatural phenomena prevents the investigation from remaining a conventional murder mystery. The result is a setting that feels deliberately uncomfortable, where even beautiful locations and wealthy households often hide something sinister underneath. Gameplay revolves heavily around conversations and investigation. Players travel between locations, examine environments, gather information, collect useful objects, interact with numerous characters, and occasionally solve puzzles. Dialogue choices and relationships also contribute to the experience, particularly because many characters have motivations that are not immediately obvious. The game encourages paying attention to conversations instead of rapidly clicking through them, as seemingly minor information can help explain later developments. The detective mechanics work best when exploration, clues, and character interactions come together. Discovering information personally gives the player a stronger connection to the mystery than simply receiving every revelation through lengthy dialogue. Puzzles and item-based interactions provide occasional breaks from reading, although these elements are generally secondary to the narrative. Players expecting complicated adventure-game puzzles or extensive role-playing mechanics may find the systems relatively modest. The primary purpose of these mechanics is to keep the player actively involved in the unfolding story. The narrative is divided into five episodes, allowing the central mystery to develop gradually. Each part expands the protagonist's understanding of the past while introducing additional complications involving politics, relationships, supernatural events, and competing loyalties. This episodic approach suits the story because revelations can be delivered progressively instead of overwhelming the player with explanations all at once. It also gives secondary characters enough time to become relevant rather than existing merely as sources of information. Visually, the game uses animated 2D artwork that fits its unusual world particularly well. Characters have distinctive appearances, while environments communicate the contrast between aristocratic luxury and the darker conditions affecting society. The presentation is not technically extravagant, but strong artistic direction compensates for its relatively modest production scale. Music further reinforces the mysterious and melancholic mood, helping lengthy dialogue scenes maintain an appropriate atmosphere. The writing is ambitious but not consistently refined. Certain conversations can feel awkward, and localization occasionally makes dialogue less natural than intended. The game also introduces numerous characters, supernatural concepts, political relationships, and pieces of historical information, so losing concentration can make later events harder to follow. Some themes and relationships are intentionally uncomfortable as well, making this better suited to players comfortable with mature and morally complicated storytelling. Player choice is present, but expectations should remain reasonable. This is not a massive branching role-playing game in which every decision completely transforms the storyline. Choices, relationships, and interactions can influence the experience, yet the game still follows a defined overarching narrative. This structure allows the developers to maintain a focused mystery, although players seeking extensive freedom may consider the decision-making less substantial than they would prefer. Steam Deck compatibility is not officially rated by Valve as Verified or Playable. The game was designed primarily around a traditional PC interface, and Steam Deck users may therefore encounter issues involving controls, interface interaction, text readability, or the need for customized controller layouts. Because its gameplay is largely based on dialogue, exploration, and point-and-click interaction rather than demanding real-time combat, it may still be possible to play through compatibility tools and community configurations, but it should be considered an unofficial and potentially imperfect Steam Deck experience rather than guaranteed native handheld support. Ultimately, Leviathan: The Last Day of the Decade is most successful when treated as an atmospheric interactive mystery rather than a mechanically complex adventure. Its combination of murder investigation, supernatural horror, political corruption, pandemic-stricken society, aristocratic intrigue, and complicated personal relationships gives it a memorable identity. Uneven localization, relatively simple gameplay systems, and occasional narrative roughness prevent it from reaching its full potential, but the strength of its setting and central mystery can compensate for many of those shortcomings. For players who appreciate visual novels, detective adventures, dark fantasy, point-and-click exploration, and stories filled with morally ambiguous characters, there is considerable appeal here. It is imperfect and occasionally awkward, yet it possesses enough originality and atmosphere to stand apart from more conventional narrative adventures. Rating: 8/10
