About
Leviathan is a multiplayer extraction shooter set in a sci-fi universe where humanity has been abducted by a gargantuan, interstellar beast and changed over the course of several millennia. The abducted were ultimately discarded onto foreign planets. To survive, they have been forced to evolved into three factions of biologically and ideologically distinct lifeforms. Recently, a second wave of abductions have occurred. Fate has brought them together to the surface of the bountiful world of Domusalus; where only ONE FACTION can establish dominance for their survival.
• Terran – Strength is paramount. Given the chance to demonstrate their might to the weaker factions, they will surely establish dominance. Domusalus, being rich in natural resources their home planet is greatly lacking, shows itself as an opportunity to conquer. After previously living in such hostile environments, the Terran have no intentions of sharing this wealth – the other factions are merely an obstacle in their path to claim what is theirs.
• Faunian – The Faunian believe in the preservation of natural life. If any being was to show disrespect to this order, that being is considered a pollutant that must be cleansed from the ecosystem. After seeing the other factions taking selfish advantage of the planet’s resources, the Faunian ready themselves to protect it, even if it means total extinction of the opposition, and the native Domi people.
• Angel – With golden metallic bodies, the Angel have discarded their ties to humanity. In doing so, they have become virtually immortal and seek to "upgrade" all other lifeforms in the same way. Believing that this is the only way for advancement, any who resist are marked at as primitive beings that require immediate extermination.
• Three playable factions – each with a mysterious shared history!
• Hundreds of items - weapons, ammo, armor, grenades, restoratives and more!
• Explore the “Aurelian Wilds” - a HUGE map offering unique areas, enemies, loot and extractions!
• High risk/High reward - fight against (and loot!) both AI and Player opponents!
• Play solo or in teams of three – take the loot for yourself OR work together to enhance survivability!
• Capture outposts – make your mark to boost your faction's domination over the planet!

runs terribly, bad game
This game is a bit like a young child. It is a little slow to process, tends to fall from time to time, and still doesn't quiet know what outfit it wants to wear. The good news is it has all the bones to become a great game. This is a perfect time to become one of its village and help in its development. Even with all the stumbles and confusion, I've had a great deal of fun. There are even a few bugs that really just make me smile. (Unexpected falling through terrain, launching into the air, etc.)
Leviathan is a science-fiction extraction shooter built around dangerous expeditions, persistent equipment, faction conflict, and a mixture of PvP and PvE encounters. Developed by Dream Foundry Games and published by Secret Waterfall LLC, it presents an imaginative setting in which humanity has been displaced across alien worlds after being taken by an enormous interstellar creature. Over thousands of years, isolated human populations have evolved into radically different societies, eventually meeting again on Domusalus, a valuable planet whose resources become the catalyst for a violent struggle. One of the more memorable aspects of the game is its three-faction structure. The Terrans pursue expansion and control through strength, while the Faunians view themselves as defenders of natural life and respond aggressively to anything they consider harmful to the environment. The Angels have taken a very different evolutionary path, abandoning conventional organic existence for mechanical bodies and pursuing their own interpretation of immortality. These factions are more than differently colored armies, at least conceptually, because each represents a distinct philosophy. Their conflicting beliefs give the setting considerably more identity than the basic premise of competing teams fighting over resources might suggest. The main gameplay revolves around entering hostile territory, gathering equipment and supplies, surviving encounters, and reaching an extraction point with the valuables collected during the expedition. Weapons, ammunition, armor, grenades, healing supplies, and other useful objects create the familiar risk-versus-reward tension of the extraction genre. Finding something valuable immediately creates another decision: continue searching for better rewards or escape while the current haul is still secure. Death can turn an otherwise productive expedition into a costly failure, giving encounters more significance than they would have in a conventional multiplayer deathmatch. Domusalus and the Aurelian Wilds provide a sizable environment divided into multiple areas, giving players room to explore and approach objectives from different directions. Outposts introduce a territorial element because factions can fight to capture and defend them. This helps connect individual expeditions to the larger conflict rather than making every session feel completely isolated. The seasonal faction competition is similarly appealing in principle, providing a broader objective for players who want their repeated deployments to contribute toward something beyond personal inventory progression. Leviathan supports both solitary expeditions and cooperative squads of up to three players. Going alone makes positioning, resource management, and knowing when to avoid combat especially important. A squad provides additional firepower and greater tactical flexibility, but coordinated opponents can be equally dangerous. The combination of AI-controlled enemies and other players means that an apparently straightforward looting expedition can become unpredictable very quickly. Human opponents remain the greatest source of uncertainty, while hostile AI prevents quieter portions of the map from becoming completely harmless. There is also a substantial collection-oriented component. Hundreds of obtainable items, equipment choices, rewards, enemy groups, faction objectives, and numerous achievements provide different goals to pursue. The equipment system encourages repeated expeditions because successful extraction can strengthen future loadouts. Unfortunately, the multiplayer focus also creates one of the game's biggest vulnerabilities. Extraction shooters depend heavily on a healthy population to create unpredictable encounters, faction competition, and meaningful PvP tension. With fewer active players, a large environment can inevitably feel much emptier than intended. The biggest consideration is that Leviathan remains an unfinished Early Access project whose development was cancelled because of financial difficulties. This fundamentally affects any recommendation. Improvements had been envisioned for gunplay, environments, character presentation, enemy variety and behavior, visual effects, armor representation, equipment, collectibles, and other areas, but those plans should no longer be treated as expected future content. Players need to judge the available game for what it currently provides rather than purchasing or investing time based on what it might eventually become. Its presentation consequently carries the roughness expected from a project that stopped before reaching its intended final state. Some voice and 2D visual material was produced with generative AI as temporary Early Access content, with plans originally calling for replacement by human-created assets. With development discontinued, these elements contribute to the feeling of playing a snapshot from an unfinished production. The underlying artistic and narrative concepts can still be interesting, but consistency and refinement fall short of what would be expected from a completed multiplayer shooter. Steam Deck compatibility is another area where expectations should remain conservative. The game does not have an official Steam Deck Verified or Playable designation, so it should be regarded as unsupported or unverified for Valve's handheld rather than assumed to provide a reliable portable experience. Its Windows-focused requirements and online multiplayer nature can introduce additional compatibility concerns under SteamOS. Players determined to experiment may have varying results through Proton, but there is no official Deck certification to guarantee controls, interface readability, performance, or overall stability. A Windows desktop remains the safer platform for playing it. Ultimately, Leviathan contains the beginnings of an interesting extraction shooter. Its unusual factions, alien setting, persistent loot, cooperative squads, territorial objectives, and PvPvE structure show considerable ambition. There are moments when the combination of exploration, valuable equipment, and the possibility of sudden combat delivers the tension the genre needs. The problem is that these ideas belong to a project that never received the development time required to fully refine them. As a free-to-play curiosity it can still be worth examining for dedicated extraction-shooter enthusiasts, but anyone expecting a polished, actively supported multiplayer experience should temper expectations considerably. Rating: 5/10
The game has a very interesting world to explore, and the environments are varied. On the map there are even bases to go capture, where you can put your combat skills to the test. The shooting is crisp. It feels satisfying to shoot targets and I like that there are a decent variety of weapons. I also enjoy that the weapons have stats and rarity, which means I can get excited about finding the guns that have higher damage output. Overall, I have enjoyed playing the game and would recommend it to others. This game is in VERY early access, so expect to experience bugs. It's still fun even with the bugs.
