Great way to learn Katakana in a game format.
Very good, educational game. I did find a glitch in the underground mission called something like "take back osaka". During this mission, if after you find Kyoko you decide to cross the same bridge you already crossed, you can do the same encounter infinitely, but the cutscene is broken.
This game is surprisingly fun, especially once you get past the first hour. Initially, it does feel just like a really bad RPG, but eventually the game does begin to include actually strategy in defeating the Katakana. Learning wise, I do think my Katakana skills have improved. If you're looking for just a casual way to study it, I recommend it. Only annoying part was achievement hunting, the affection achievement especially is tedious, but besides that, the game was surprisingly fun and I enjoyed playing it.

If you're hoping to run this under proton, don't bother. Tried a number of versions but never got beyond a black screen and some joyful music. As it's an HTML/javascript based game, Starting from the index.html or even adding a <base> tag didn't do anything. According to protondb others don't seem to have these issues.. but ubuntu 24.04 is a no-go
Way more fluid that Hiragana Battle, faster combat, the fact it shows the katakana used during combat helps to fix knowledge
great game, big help. why does removing charlotte from your party make you feel like your causing everlasting trauma?

I went a different route but this will probably work well for those who need it
Great for what it aims to do. I gladly recommend for anyone interested in learning or practicing katakana. The format is effective for motivating students with ADHD especially. It helps to take notes on paper to practice stroke order too, as physically writing things out helps with memory more than just reading or typing. (I turned a regular lined notebook on its side so I could write vertically like you see in comics). New letters are grouped by consonant and introduced in easily digestible amounts, and they always call out the letter you're using so you can hear how each character sounds. I was already somewhat familiar with katakana but now I can distinguish シ from ツ and ソ from ン, and drilling in the challenge tower to grind affection towards that final achievement helped take me from "I can read that" to "I can write that". The characters and story are... there. The main antagonist's motivation was unbelievable nonsense, and the bar was very low since I'm willing to accept that the world is being attacked by roaming letters. Each character is flat, formulaic and forgettable, but nicely illustrated, and the voice actors did a good job too, although every character speaks 100% American English regardless of national origin.
I wish they hadn't mentioned Tia's American accent when introducing characters because it's immersion-breaking that the supposedly Australian character who drew attention to it also speaks in a perfectly American accent. You don't need Australian friends to know they do not sound Californian, but I suppose directing an all-american cast to attempt accents matching the characters' written backgrounds might have been a disaster anyway. It also trips me up that we treat our teacher as a peer and address him by his given name, but maybe there's no such thing as family names in this universe.
My favorite character was corn soup. Ultimately, it is an excellent study tool.
