Kitten Burst

i do say i recommend it, because i think a lot of the problems i have are possibly my own fault. Playing on laptop, no controller, so i'm not playing in the recommended format. love the aesthetics and music. I wish there were maps of some sort to tell you where the races are located, because the palettes of the game make it hard to tell what i'm looking for? I was stuck looking for the UFO race in anemoi for ages because when it's floating in the sky and not near any shadows or dark objects, it is practically invisible. took me a whole day and a half to find it when i beat the rest of anemoi the same day previously. and the boss fights are basically impossible to survive compared to anything else. Again, a good chance it's because i'm not playing it the optimal way, but the absurd difference in difficulty between the races and the boss fights are sort of shocking. i can't progress at all and i've just been circling the three bosses i'm currently trying to win against hoping i best one of them at least one time, and it's been fruitless. i don't seem to be the only one having either issue based on the forums too, which is unfortunate. i think these are probably either self-inflicted issues or a nitpick so i'm still excited to hopefully beat a boss soon and keep going, i have a lot more of the game to play and i know this. so i'll update my review if my opinion changes. but i'm in love with this game aesthetically and it cannot bring me down from that easily, so i hope i can get further into the game and have something more positive to say. i still really think you should give it a chance if you're better at video games than me and have the correct setup.

I had zero idea what to expect going into this game, but color me extremely pleasantly surprised. There's something oddly hypnotizing about the two gameplay loops Kitten Burst features. The campaign is on the shorter side, but I think that's only due to the fact the pace of the game is condensed to eliminate downtime. Very little feels "filler", and anything filler still (ironically, given the definition of the word) contributes to the gameplay in a meaningful way. $25 is a little steep of an ask if you're intending on playing through the campaign and then stopping there, but for people who are a fan of short titles with a lot of replayability, you could very well get your money's worth optimizing the first act's races alone. There's a lot this game doesn't force you to do, and in that way it is one of the most freeing experiences I've ever had in a non-sandbox game. Very highly recommend, either at full price or at discount depending on what you want from a game like this one.
