Isles of Monsters' is a 20-minute interactive cinematic experience in which you perform a few simple tasks with an end goal of fighting a large Godzilla like dragon. While the graphics are a little basic and the story & narration are all in Chinese this is still a pretty good experience for a freebie. Sure, not understanding the language means you have to work out what to do most of the time, but with a little bit of trial and error, I managed to get through it. While I wouldn't want to have paid money for it, for a free download this is worth a look even if its just to see the break dancing Panda. (but it could do with English subtitles at least).
Enjoyable little game. I did not know the language but I could figure it out. But because of that I probably missed the point of the story. If would be great if there was english subtitles to understand.

"夢獸之島Isles of Monsters" is a frankly bizarre Taiwanese VR tech demo, a simple first person shooter with a complicated premise... it's based around Taiwanese fiction literature. You know what the FPS gaming world has not been crying out for? Yeah, Taiwanese historical fiction VR exclusives. I wonder why this failed? What do you do in the game? Well you wave your arms around and shoot various low poly... things. There's no English translation for the game, but that's okay. The language of bad games is universal. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. It's important to note that, despite this being such a low quality product, there's a number of positive reviews that all appeared precisely 24 days after the game launched, from suspiciously inactive Russian Steam accounts that have reviewed almost no other games apart from this. Take the review score of this game with a grain of salt... which just makes all this even more bizarre, doesn't it? Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
