This game has been great and the first ITR is one of my favorite VR games of all time. HOWEVER. Now that they felt the need to drop paid DLC for a throwback cosmetic that should be free to anyone who owns the first game while many base issues still persist I feel I can't in good faith recommend this. Since Beta it feels like it has been one step forward and 3 steps back. Many of the bugs that plagued the game in the beginning are still preset, especially in coop: -Enemies glitching through the ground -Items like NVGs and flashlights sometimes decide to no longer toggle. -anomalies are sometimes invisible which makes missions that need them extra difficult for no reason. -if you drop your gun too fast out of the holster you better hope the host is nearby so they can pick it up cause you cannot. -pop in if you're not host can sometimes be incredibly bad, got killed cause I walked into a distortion zone that I couldn't see till it was too late Altered items were changed from interesting items morphed by the radius (3 forks smushed together, multiple rubicks cubes fused) to every day items that you can only tell are altered by staring at them for multiple seconds to watch the texture change. Why they felt the need to changed altered items and swap the anomalies (which were neat) with the interesting altered item designs, leaving you to stare at a shelf waiting to see a texture change is beyond me. The ambience and atmosphere of this game can be tremendous but in a second you can be taken out and frustrated by a ton of annoying bugs. Pulling out of Beta/EA and having a 1.0 release when almost nothing that should've been in the base game was present or fixed was the first slap but paid DLC for a game people are clearly enjoying but frustrated with your choices/lack of fixes is abhorrent.
I'm waiting for a patch that, at this rate, will never come. The game has a massive problem with unstable FPS, with drops happening every 3 seconds and making my motion sickness kick in after just 5 minutes of gameplay. Some areas are literally unplayable because of this. You may say, "Maybe your PC, connection type, or headset is the problem," but with a 4060 Ti, 32 GB of DDR5, Wi-Fi 7, Steam Link, and a Meta Quest 3S working flawlessly in every other VR game, that is unfortunately not the case. So, after all the yapping, this is going to remain a negative review until the problem is fixed.
Has uh... anyone felt like the Dev teams Kinda walked away from this? Last update was a few months ago and much of the game... well it feels lackluster. No idea what they are choosing to use their time on but into the radius 2 Still needs work. The gun walls not complete in the slightest, re-playability is non existent, And the game needs more options to end game. Saving grace. Modder's. My last playthrough was enjoyable because I modded the hell out of it to make the game feel like a mixture of Stalker, Metro, and Chernobelite. Better movement, more speed, better gun play, functional artifices that do things instead of just being cash to exchange. Issue is. Because the mods do a lot of the heavy lifting to make the game enjoyable. Any and every update the game has gotten or will get breaks them. That's nothing new. What is new is people's limb stick attitude to people that do a job better then you. it use to be. Game comes out, has an open source to allow modders to make things, those games still have community's and players and a fandom to this day. (Skyrim, Fallout, HLA, Mech Worrier 5) So on. Now its "Mod's are unhealthy for a games life span." "Mods Ruin a Dev's image for a game." "Mods take money out of the Dev teams hands." Uh... well. The last one's likely true, more re-playability. less copies sold but. Could sell a lot more with opening up full mod support and letting the community make the game into its own. make its own joined world spaces, let people craft things along side the game... then the copies would also sell well. All and all I don't recommend the game as it stands now. because its very dry an experience. one single exposure to a new system then its gone, never used again in the same way threw the rest of the game. Also, not a fan of NPC 'friend' guy story arch.
Please, please remove Lauri. He does nothing but ruin the game's atmosphere and I mean that without any hyperbole. He *ruins* the game. Remove him entirely. This is a near unanimous opinion of people who play this game. PLEASE remove Lauri. The first game was oppressive, lonely and perfect in those regards. The second game COULD be just as good if you would PLEASE. PLEEASE remove Lauri. I am BEGGING you, devs, to please listen to us. We are playing this game because we love it and we want peoples' first impressions to be as good as possible. Lauri RUINS the impression of this game.
This game is a genuine masterpiece, and such a ridiculous step up from the first game, the gunplay is basically unmatched, the gameplay loop is addicting (I spent over 4 hours making sure my base looked clean and my gun rack was organized) its absolutely terrifying, but very fair. Even on my decently old pc, it runs quite well for an unreal engine 5 game and I haven't had any noticeable immersion breaks due to performance. Story isn't anything special but it moves the player along the areas and the shop progression makes sense. Overall, its really fun and I can't wait to convince some friends to get it (they added 4 player so I can get a few) and we can goof around for hours. 9/10

Having played most big VR titles, I gotta say ITR2 has to be one of my favorites. The feeling of coming back from a mission, having spent all but your last box of ammo, your vision flashing bright red and the sound of your own heartbeat and the growls of your stomach drilling it's way into your eardrums is something that cannot be topped. This game (at least for me) was so intense at times that after completing my mission I felt physically drained from the constant firefights. The enemies felt generally very immersive, flanking realistically, and ducking behind cover as they should. This combined with constant threat of anomalies made sure that you couldn't relax for a moment, constantly having to scan the area in front of you for any number of different threats, though I have to admit the amount of anomalies should probably be lessened in some areas, as they can feel somewhat impossible to safely navigate. The story, while definitely far from a 10/10, has it's moments now and again, especially during the ending sequence, and with some of the Lauri statues, which felt fittingly bleak and depressing for the game's tone. The weapons also felt great to construct, and even better to use, though the virtual gunstock was admittedly janky at times (can be disabled in settings). The scavenger system of actually looking for and stripping guns of parts was fun, and definitely added much more overall immersion, though I noticed I tended to just get the same 3-4 weapons over and over again for most of the game, despite it having a relatively large arsenal to chose from. The game definitely had trouble running through certain bits, with lag and freezes being commonplace in maps like Pechorsk Outskirts and some parts of Romashka Cooperative. I also experienced a few crashes and some weird collision, but they were generally few and far between. The game's overall atmosphere and map design was pretty decent, though not quite to the level of ITR1. The addition of speaking characters in general (while definitely better than in the 1.0 beta) still did retract from the overall mood of the game, making it feel much less isolating and immersive than ITR1. specifically, Lauri felt very flat and videogamey at times, especially with the fact that you had to shake his hand to enter each new map, which took me out of the otherwise very immersive gameplay of ITR2. There are other characters introduced, but they don't really have much of a presence in the overall plot of the game, just popping in now and again for a cool moment or a lore drop. Overall, I would recommend the game to anyone with the hardware to play it, and doesn't mind the occasional crash, bug, or lag spike. The immersion in this game is truly one of the best in the VR market if you're willing to sort past a few technical issues here and there.
Maybe fix the online coop issues and bugs before releasing paid cosmetic dlc thats being advertised both in mission control and the shop.
I can't say enough good things about this game. The weapons feel great to interact with, the environments are interesting to explore, weapon building is so much fun, the enemies are genuinely scary at times, and co-op is a blast.
