I really like the game. I had it on my wishlist for years and got it on sale. I was immediately sold. I enjoy the large skill trees, unlockable blueprints, and all of your progress being saved by character. The open world has been so fun to explore. In my opinion it is heavily exploration focused, though you can build a base, furnish it, raise pets/stock, and collect resources. Overall, there is always something to do and when you hit a lull, simply jumping into a mission will help shake things up.
