This review is specially made for those who like to get all the achievements. Minor spoilers ahead. [b]Description:[/b] HOSPICE Vol. 1 is a short pixel art anime visual novel that, as the name suggests, takes place in a mental institution. The story is mostly about the two main characters, where one is the abuser and the other a punching bag, but it kept me engaged as I wanted to know how it ended. The story seems to be a bit vague and confusing and often I wasn’t sure about what were real memories and what were delusions. The graphics are made with pixel art with anime style characters, which is a weird combination. As someone mentioned, there are a lot of mostly white screens and also darker ones, and these are often used to represent the current “mood” of the story. There isn’t any kind of interaction or dialog choices to make, you simply have to read and click to get to the next paragraph. No multiple endings either. Hospice, küçük kız kardeşi olmayan saf erkek kardeş, umudu olmayan bir adam, evi olmayan bir yer hakkında kinetik bir görsel roman oyunudur.

Hospice ist eine Visual Novel, die eine eigenartige Geschichte aus einer Psychiatrie erzählt. Oder das zumindest versucht. Denke ich. Denn um was es eigentlich geht, ist mir schlicht und ergreifend nicht klar geworden. Die Story ist völlig wirr und die Dialoge wirken grösstenteils recht zusammenhangslos. Dabei hilft es nicht, dass offensichtlich die Englische Übersetzung fehlerhaft ist. Doch ich habe das Gefühl, dass das nicht das einzige Problem ist. Das ist umso schwerwiegender, als man nur teilnahmsloser Zuschauer ist. Zumindest in den 10 Minuten, die ich absolviert habe ("gespielt" kann man in dem Fall ja nicht sagen), hatte man überhaupt keine Interaktionsmöglichkeit ausser den Dialog weiterzuklicken. Dialogoptionen oder gar anderes Gameplay gab es nicht. Um den negativen Eindruck noch abzurunden, hat das Ganze auch noch eine schrecklich hässliche Grafik. Fazit: Es gibt unzählige interessante und spannende Visual Novels da draussen, dass es absolut keinen Grund gibt, Zeit in diese Produktion zu stecken. Ergänzung zur Antwort des Entwicklers: I imagine "kinetic visual novels" can be fun, when there is an actually understandable story and something pleasant to look at.

Languages of this review: English, Spanish. ENG: The main appeal of this VN is its pixel art and the pastel palette. The story is okay,just okay. It revolves around a character with an unhealthy attachment to her sister and the way he deals with it after life circumstances have them separated. There are many loose ends and unexplored characters but given the Vol.1 in the title, I assume the dev wants to make it a series and these issues will be solved in future releases. It costs less than 1€ and it lasts about an hour so the money-time ratio is adequate. I give it a 6/10 ESP: El principal atractivo de esta VN es su estilo pixel art y la paleta de colores pastel. La historia está bien, pero no es nada del otro mundo. Va de un protagonista que tiene un apego poco sano con su hermana pequeña, y de la manera en la que tiene que aprender a vivir separado de ella tras ciertos eventos. Hay más personajes en los que no se profundiza y la historia tiene cabos sueltos pero viendo que pone Vol. 1 en el título, el desarrollador parece tener la intención de hacer una serie y supongo que estos problemas se resolverán en futuras entregas. Cuesta menos de 1€ y la duración es de más o menos una hora así que la relación precio-tiempo de juego es aceptable. Le pongo un 6/10.
