I was attracted by the music, the art-style, [strike] and yes, the dragons. [/strike] I stayed for the map exploration, and the challenging bosses. Especially at the start, the combat is fun for its simplicity. There are a few wrinkles to it (especially mid-game), but after the single best boss fight, the combat balances out perfectly. (Though if you, like me, have a habit of massacring every enemy insight, and getting every upgrade and goodie before tackling an area, you may find yourself over-powered in the end game xD) Anyways, of that fight, it was the perfect blend of fair, yet very hard. (And that despite being fed a little bit of health throughout. Absolutely perfect fight.) The story is cute, if simple, (Though there was a twist to it that made it entirely worthwhile.) All in all, I recommend this tribute to retro games.
This is a game I didn't know existed but now I absolutely can't imagine living without. The sheer love for the source material, namely Zelda 2 and Shovel Knight is worn on its sleeve. It's absolutely charming and hits every checkbox of the perfect platformer game. The pixel art is absolutely charming, and you know it was made by members of the furry community. As a furry myself, I have already spotted several cameos inside it. The difficulty is balanced too. Not quite as hard as Shovel Knight, but the checkpoints are spread just far enough apart to be of a decent challenge. I wish there were more love letter games like this, and it fills me with joy to see such devoted fans of multiple walks of life coming together to make something that all skill levels of gamers can easily play.

not too far into it yet, but just wanted to drop a lil review! perfect lil mix of zelda ii and maybe wonder boy, with a whole slew of other inspirations from the 8 bit era (and a couple modern too!) challenging, but fun to explore every nook n cranny of the map thus far. if y'all like phoenotopia, def give this a run <3
Criminally underrated
in this game you play zelda 2 as someone's deviant-art self-insert furry oc
Great platformer, plus it has a dragon. Most of the abilities are fun and useful, and the game is challenging enough to make you want to use them. I did find myself choosing to run past all the enemies instead of fighting them sometimes, because I did not enjoy fighting so many strong enemies. The instakill pits were annoying. They are way more dangerous than the enemies because they delete all of your health instantly, while when fighting enemies you have a large amount of healing methods. Everytime I died to a pit, I ended up trying to run through the level as fast as I could because I didn't want to play it anymore. Despite that, I enjoyed playing the game overall.
I just finished the game and was extremely impressed and highly recommend the game. I would go so far as to say this is probably one of the most underrated games on Steam. Keeping the review short, it is 50:50 Zelda 2 and Shovel Knight so if either of those appeal to you then you'll enjoy it. Difficulty is perfect and movement feels great. Spritework is fine. Music is varied and feels very authentic to the games its inspired by. It was frequently a highlight of new stages and bosses. Another huge point in the game's favor is the length. It's got a great amount of content and lots of little secrets in stages and out of them. I have some minor complaints, for instance a few animations and graphics are a little derivative of Shovel Knight but it manages to build its own identity by the halfway point. The hair on the lizard race is also a little weird looking. But really, the fact that these are my complaints is a testament to the surprising quality from such a great game. And as a final boon, the developer has been extremely responsive during these first few weeks with near daily bug fixes. Thanks to that, I've basically had a near bug free experience.
Beat the final boss today. Very fun and occasionally challenging game that wears its inspiration on it sleeves (Zelda 2 and I think Shovel Knight?). The story was simple but good, with a nice twist in it. I did run into a couple bugs that I had to work around, but overall a good and fun experience (Also, the dev is active in squashing these bugs). If you like 2d action adventure games, this is a good pick-up!
I like dragons
Game time reflects actual time to almost 100% a first playthru (some missing lore fragments) A very good Zelda 2 style metroidvania. Lots of hidden nooks and items to collect. An amazingly good price for the amount of content. Most retro-style platformers screw up by either being too faithful to classic mechanics or brain-dead easy, this one manages to balance difficulty with decent QoL.
