Gunmetal Arcadia

This game is just wild, one of my favourite games in a 34 year gaming history. What drew me in were the similarities between this and the smash hit Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and my love for rouge like action. But I really fell in love with this once I dug in. CRT effect is great and the art style has some really nice detail for an 8Bit style. There are a good number of weapons, upgrades and buffs. Levels are procedural, they are well done too. It feels fresh every time I play. Interesting story, helps if you play the other Gunmetal game (great game too). The story is light and does not get in the way. The music is wild, it is very digital with influences from NES and Commodore 64, At least that is what I hear. I love it. It's strange in some ways, but it feels deep. It's a great game all around, there isn't much I can criticise. Does not need much to run, great on a laptop. It's perfect to pickup when you have time for a quick game of something. It's entertaining, has fast action and is very engaging. Worth full price.

This game is a short roguelite with graphics reminiscent of Faxanadu (NES). I was frankly surprised I have enjoyed it and replayed it as much as I have so far (especially considering how I normally get tired of playing a game after I've beat it three times, max). The graphics, music, and sound would be fitting for an NES period game. In terms of difficulty, I found once you become familiar with the enemies and bosses, this game is very reasonable (unless you have really bad RNG). There are a decent variety of weapons and subweapons/items as well as different playable characters which keeps it interesting. There was only one item I thought was so strong it's broken [spoiler](I'm looking at you Vita-Synth).[/spoiler] As a roguelite with randomly generated maps, sometimes there aren't enough shops or gold/treasure. Or sometimes you get a great windfall and get all the items you could want. Of course the random map generation can work against you if you like going for quest achievements, where both the item and corresponding NPC need to be randomly generated for the same playthrough. The map generation is affected by the previous playthrough (the "Legacy"), so if you shop and explore a lot on one playthrough, the game will generate more shops and rooms for the following playthough. Overall, Gunmetal Arcadia is an short, enjoyable, and highly replayable game. I would recommend this game to people who like games with NES graphics, short and enjoyable play sessions, with reasonable difficulty.
