Though the game was very short, it was super enjoyable. The storyline is simple yet impactful, and the two endings were both great. All the characters were developed well despite the short playtime, each having substantial depth. The graphics are charming and all the battle spriteworks + animations looked amazing. The setting of the game is a unique concept and the atmopshere was built well. The game’s music is solid and all fitting for their respective locations/scenes. The game mechanics took a bit to get used to and, in all honesty, I am not the biggest fan. You WILL be consistently taking damage (no dodging mechanics) the longer the battle lasts, so it encourages players to finish battles as quickly as possible… which is an interesting game design. I did really enjoy the skill tree mechanic. Every battle rewards the player with the currency used for levelling up skills, so it incentivises players to fight enemies and makes levelling up skills very satisfying. There are many different skills available for unlocking which opens up a ton of different battle strategies. However, due to the game design encouraging quick battles, high damage skills are rewarded whilst more strategic/debuff/slow-burn skills are punished. Grimm’s Hollow is a short but very impactful game. Though it has a few flaws in its game design, it overall does an amazing job for the playtime it has. IT IS ALSO FREE!!!
