Overall: A game that was absolutely worth revisiting, especially since I had forgotten so much of the story and had never played the two DLCs before.

Grand Theft Auto IV – Revisiting Liberty City
I decided to run this game back after playing it years ago. Back then, I mostly remembered the gameplay and some of its mechanics, especially the driving. I also remembered how much darker the game looked compared to other GTA games, with a much less colourful visual style. What I did not remember very well was the actual story. I remembered certain parts here and there, but I had forgotten a lot of Niko's background and many of the smaller details. With the game being on sale on Steam, I decided to pick it up again. I also had another reason to revisit it this time. I had never played either of the two DLCs, so this gave me a chance to finally experience them.
Story
This time around, I made sure to actually pay attention to the story. Since I had played the game years ago, I knew some of the major events, but I had forgotten enough that many smaller details felt new again. I paid more attention to Niko's background, the characters around him, and how everything develops throughout the story. It was a different experience compared to my first playthrough. Back then, I mostly played through the game without thinking too much about the story. This time, I paid more attention to the conversations and cutscenes, which made me appreciate it more.
Gameplay & Mechanics
The driving is still one of my favourite parts of the game. I know a lot of people dislike the driving in GTA IV because the cars feel heavier and take some time to get used to, but once I got used to it, I really enjoyed it. This time I played with a controller, and being able to control the speed more naturally made the driving feel much better. The main gameplay still holds up well. Missions are enjoyable, the shooting feels good enough, and fast travel makes getting around the city easier. The races were also fun. They could become annoying when I made a mistake, but I never felt like I needed a specific car to win them.
World & Exploration
Liberty City still has a great atmosphere. The darker colour grading is something I remembered from my first playthrough, and coming back to the game reminded me just how different it feels compared to the more colourful GTA games. There is plenty to do outside of the main story, although some activities were definitely more enjoyable than others. The biggest annoyance for me was collecting the pigeons. There are a lot of them, and keeping track of which ones I had already collected became more annoying than the actual activity. The stunt jumps were more enjoyable. I completed around five or six accidentally while doing missions and finished the remaining ones towards the end.
Technical Issues & Achievement
My first experience with GTA IV on PC was not great. Back then, I remember having quite a few bugs and needing to apply patches just to get the game working properly. I initially thought my system might not be good enough, but that same system later ran GTA V, so I realised the problem was more with the PC version itself. A lot of those issues have been fixed now, but there are still a few things worth knowing about. The final mission can have an issue where the required button input does not register properly at higher frame rates. I recommend using FusionFix or limiting the game to 30 FPS to avoid the problem. There are also some missions where failing means replaying a larger section because of limited checkpoints. I also happened to look up one achievement beforehand, and I am glad I did. Its timer counts more than just active mission time, so free roaming, cutscenes and mission failures can count as well. I finished the main story in around 30 hours without rushing or skipping cutscenes.
The DLCs
One thing I really liked about both DLCs is that they take place during the same timeline as the main game. Because of that, you get to see certain events from a different perspective and come across some interactions with characters from the main story. I will leave it at that to avoid spoilers, but I really liked how everything connects together.
The Lost and Damned
The Lost and Damned is shorter than the main game, and it also felt a little less polished compared to the second DLC. One of the biggest changes is the lack of fast travel. Since Johnny is always riding around on his bike, you should expect to spend a lot more time travelling to missions. You cannot simply call a taxi, so this is the only one where fast travel feels more restricted. The story itself is still really good. GTA V already shows what happens to Johnny later, but this DLC gives you more background on him. One small complaint I had was with the map. When selecting a location, the crosshair can be quite difficult to see sometimes, which made selecting locations more annoying than it needed to be.
The Ballad of Gay Tony
The Ballad of Gay Tony felt a bit more impactful to me. Even though all three stories have a few interactions with each other and show different perspectives of the same events, this DLC felt more rewarding overall, especially since I was also working towards the achievements. Luis was also a really nice character and brought some fresh air compared to Niko and Johnny. I still had a few complaints with some missions, especially the enemy waves. The chase scenes could also get annoying, as enemies could instantly spawn back behind you even after escaping. This was especially noticeable during the drug wars. Overall, I enjoyed The Ballad of Gay Tony more than The Lost and Damned.
Final Thoughts
Overall, revisiting GTA IV and finally playing both DLCs was absolutely worth it. I had forgotten a lot more of the game than I expected, especially when it came to the story. Playing through it again and paying attention to the smaller details made me appreciate Niko's story much more. The driving is still my favourite part, and the darker atmosphere gives the game its own identity. The pigeons were probably my least favourite activity, while the races and stunt jumps were more enjoyable. The two DLCs were also a great addition. I liked seeing the same timeline from different perspectives, and The Ballad of Gay Tony ended up being my favourite of the two. I am glad I decided to run GTA IV back after all these years. It gave me a chance to experience Niko's story again and finally play the two DLCs I missed the first time around.
THE BEST GTA
This is the best GTA game in my opinion it has a big and dense map with underground subway tunnels very realistic physics and car driving and very good gameplay and a very good story and it has amazing DLCs which are on the same map and at the same time as the base game but with different main characters and have different atmopsheres like with different coloured HUDs and I think this game is really fun to play. You can explore a great map with great weapons and the game has some great radio music it has lots of stuff to do it in the game like side missions like to find all 200 pigeons across the map or complete all stunts or deliever all vehicles for money theres not really that much to spend on money though and this game doesn't really have many rewards like if you do find all 200 pigeons which can take a while the only thing you get is a helicopter spawn that spawns at the top of a building which you would already need a helicopter to get to anyway and it doing it would also just add to 100 percent completion and if you do all stunts you just get nothing and for doing the vehicle deliveries you would get money and some other side content there are also friend activaties which do give you rewards but not all of them give you rewards I think and I never really used any of those rewards anyway and for getting 100 precent completion which took me over 100 hours to do you get
the only thing you get for 100 percent completing every thing in the game you just get the abiility to carry as much ammo as you want theres no limit on the amount of ammo you can carry with each gun it sounds cool but its actually ruined because of a bug apparantly because when you save the game and come back all you're ammo is reverted back to the limit before you coluld carry as much ammo as you wanted so basically you can carry as much ammo as you want but it gets reverted back to the ammo capacity before 100 percent any time you save so and thats the only thing you get you get not that much for 100 percenting and i wouldnt say its worth it for the rewards if the ammo upgrade wasnt bugged then I would probally say yes but its bugged and this is a shame because in San Andreas and Vice City for 100 percenting that you would get infinte ammo and health and a unique outfit and other cool bonuses but here this is all you get.
I think this is a great game a open world masterpiece that is very realistic with great physics great story and I would say in my opinion that this is the best Grand Theft Auto game.
This game focuses on realism so much that it actually makes no sense. The physics, the logic, the control of the character, the goofy, over exaggerated driving. This game unfairly punishes the player and has a lot of terrible mission design that doesn't match the gameplay of the open world and is illogical. The whole game is supposed to be about realism, yet every step in this fake realism, there's so many dumb and rage-filled struggles you have to go through. If you ever play the game, just count how many times you die during a mission over something that's related to the character being hard to control or the mission not really making sense, and then you can fail a mission in like 2 seconds, just have have to spend the next like 10 minutes or more driving everywhere, doing all the stuff just because the game mechanics suck. I've died so many times from clunky or inconsistent game mechanics that I just completely uninstalled the game very close to beating it. I genuinely can't believe how bad the controls of this game are, and how harsh the punishments are. Many times I die it's from just very difficult or poorly designed game mechanics like niko not shooting around corners suddenly at a certain angle even though he should and then I die, or I get ejected out of a vehicle doing 5 mph, or somehow Nikocan drive with a gun in his hand in the car, but he has to put the gun up to get out of the car and then takes forever to take it back out, so you die all the time getting out of cars in combat situations. Niko is a trained soldier, but yet can't exit a vehicle with a weapon drawn, but you can also carry an RPG and AK inside of your tuxedo. It's just stupid. Idk what they were thinking when they designed this game, and I think this has to be one of the most overrated games in history. On PC, the game runs like sh*t too, terrible frame drops, weird texture loading, just wow it's awful how low the fps drops. I played this game originally on ps3 back in 2008 and it still sucks. This is what I would call the best mediocre game. It should've been much better than what it was. I really don't know what the aim was of the people who made this. It's so pretentious to have this game designed around "realism" yet punish the player so hard for unrealistic gameplay aspects related to poor game functioning that get you killed all the time for basically no reason. If you think this is a good game, I'd recommend you try playing a wider variety of games. I've played many at this point, and I really don't understand why people like this game.
The Lost and Damned mostra um lado completamente diferente de Liberty City. Mas o grande destaque fica para The Ballad of Gay Tony. Nota: 10/10. Uma obra-prima da Rockstar Games!
