Ah, this game was quite the ride. "I can't beat these pretty girls" is not your standard FMV dating sim as this game explores 3 different narratives all in one game which I thought was pretty unique and awesome to see. I highly recommend this if you enjoy story games, especially involving a main character who's personality revolves around being a boxer! The story overall is really grounded so nothing ever feels too farfetch'd so definitely an immersive enough experience that makes you just want to watch and see how each of the story ends. If you need more convincing then here's my expanded review. The characters. The story revolves around Shi Lei, a rising star in the boxing world. The story shifts depending on decisions that you make at the beginning of the game to Life's Redemption, The Revenge, and Legend's Exit. Depending on which route you take his personality changes to the story which was really cool to see how our main character adapts to our choices. All of the love interests show in each other's story here there but for each of the routes mentioned above you will get only two love choices each story. In Life's Redemption you meet Zhu Yueran, an upcoming boxing star in the women's boxing league, and Wang Xinyuan, a therapist that was hired to help the boxing team you were previously a part of before the prologue. Zhu Yueran is a tomboy that is honest to a fault, although you may not know why she is deeply inspired by you and hopes to live up to an expectation of becoming the best through your help. But when you are tempted with choices of money and power, will you sacrifice her dreams in order to achieve your own happiness? While Wang Xinyuan becomes a crucial partner in helping you deal with a traumatic event in your past. But moving on from the past can be hard so would you rather hold on to what is most familiar with you or take the plunge to exploring a new life despite the fear of the unknown? In the Revenge, two managers attempt to recruit you to join their boxing team. Starting with Su Xi, she's the cold and charming femme fatale that manages the Dragon Fist gym and is willing to do whatever it takes to get you into the boxing ring. Despite this deceptive personality she seems to know a lot of secrets about you and your past, the question is if it is worth pursuing her while putting yourself at risk? Then there is Lu Youyou, the quirky and hilarious manager of the Daqiang gym that focuses on building familial bonds and enjoying the sport of boxing. Despite her non-serious behavior she chases you everywhere and desperately wishes you to join her side, will you give in or resist the temptation she presents? Lastly, the Legend's Exit finds you navigating your affection between a childhood friend and a rich heiress. Zhao Xiaoqiao is the innocent and naive love interest that relies on you for comfort and protection since childhood. Although you have both been friends for a long time, will you finally see her as the woman she has become or continue seeing her as the little child you helped take care of when you were both young? Then there is Wan Baoer, she's rich, alluring, and mischievous. She seems to be drawn by you and uses her wealth and power to support you, but is this all just a game to her or is her feelings genuine for you? There are also a cast of support characters like your childhood friend Hua Bu Yi and your worker Liang Cheng Dong that acts as your comedic relief and helps support you in certain stories. Although minor in role, I can appreciate what they bring to the story as another male character just wanting to help you. Each story essentially follows the pattern of one immature lover vs one mature lover (you'll see what I mean when you play). My complaint would be that in each of the story there is predominately one love interest that gets the more dynamic and compelling story, while the other is stuck with a flatter arc. When looking at the rankings, I can understand why some characters are ranked where they are because the story either doesn't highlight them enough or doesn't show their growth compared to their competition. Although I can enjoy the diverse selection of personalities, I would like to see these characters be able to develop personality wise alongside the Shi Lei. Some endings also feel kinda flatter compared to others which can kinda suck.. The story. So I'll try to give a gist of each story without any spoilers. Life's Redemption. After a traumatic event, Shi Lei finds himself down in the dumps and unable to afford his own rent. He is a shell of his former self but through meeting Zhu Yueran and having sessions with Wang Xinyuan does he start beginning of his road to recovery. But when temptation and evil comes knocking at the door will you have what it takes to continue your healing journey, or will you relapse into something far worse? The Revenge. Curious about something Su Xi said, you seek her out and wonder why she wants you to join her team. Meanwhile, Lu Youyou is also relentlessly pursuing you. As the story unfolds you learn there are secrets about the boxing world that caused certain events to happen in your life. To resolve any past grudges and seek redemption you begin training to face the newest champion of the season. But will you stick to integrity and box with honor, or are you willing to sell your soul if it means destroying your enemies in the process? The Legend's Exit. Retired from the boxing life, you now only focus on managing the bar you now own with your winnings. However, Zhao Xiaoqiao finds herself constantly being bothered due to her father's debts, while you are trying to appease the rich heiress Wan Baoer to keep your bar afloat. As trouble comes knocking at your door where will you find comfort in your life? Will you lean on the shoulder of love that you grew up with, or will you explore the exciting but chaotic life that a rich heiress brings? Can't really complain much about the story, IMO boxing stories are always so cool and not used as much so it feels refreshing seeing it used here. Each story reflects very well how Shi Lei would be if he cared about winning or losing in boxing. My ranking of the story though is 1. Revenge, 2. Redeem, 3. Legend. The Mechanics. So there are a few QTEs in the game which keeps you on your toes. I like that the game will often provide a warning beforehand on any QTEs happening to prepare you for it. The affection system is a staple and will affect your endings with each love interest. But I also like the addition of secondary systems that are unique to each story which further adds changes and impacts the story from your choices, adding more replayability to the game! The UI and English subtitles can use some polishing as there are some spelling errors here there that is laughable, and there some sections that the subtitles just disappear completely so I end up lost on the story. The cinematography is great in this game, everything looks crisp and clean! The use of soundtrack and music is also well done and often goes well thematically to the scenes. There are achievements but only some of them are used to unlock content while others don't do anything. There is a ranking system as well but I don't see a way to earn more flowers to give to my favorite character. Profiles are available but they are rather bare bones, I wish there were more content to unlock such as pictures or more biography! The only unlockable are the scenes which acts as wall papers and each lady gets 3 scenes, but that's about it. Overall, the game offers a really unique branch story that shapes the characters and world around you. Not all of the love interests may catch your eye as some have stronger stories and personalities than others. Having more unlockable content would be great and add more reasons to pursue achievements. Despite these setbacks though, the overall story and available content makes up for these weaknesses. Giving it a 9/10 for me!
