Freedom Planet 2 is much like Sonic during the Saturn Era in more ways than one. Not only stylistically, but also in terms of polish. The game is beautiful, the story is charming, the OST is phenomenal, and the gameplay feels smooth. However, there are two key issues (Spoilers): 1. Replayability: After you clear the game, you get the option to play "Classic Mode", which is basically the story mode minus the story. To make matters worse, every character plays the same stages, albeit in some cases, different orders (but I'm going to be honest here I never deviate from the intended playing order). This is a significant issue because most new players will gravitate towards Lilac, the main protagonist. Meaning, once you've beaten the game as Lilac... that's it. Sure, you could replay the game as her three friends, but does it really make a difference? 2. The True Ending: This is my big gripe with the game. To get the true ending, you must collect every Time Capsule in Battlesphere stages. The real issue is within the actual true ending. In it, Merga, instead of angrily dying in Bakunawa, recieves a voicemail from Cordelia, her lover. Merga is... pacified (I guess. I don't know how to read the room.) Out of nowhere, Syntax of all characters is revealed to be the real villain (This was foreshadowed in a cutscene, but Syntax? SYNTAX?!). You have to play a survival horror stage to get to him, which you can deduce I don't really appreciate, as it ruins the relatively consistent tone the game was building for 24 stages. The boss itself is... eh. The design is great, but the aftermath makes no sense whatsoever. The ending you do get is pretty much a carbon copy of the normal ending, except for an after-credits scene where it is foreshadowed that Cordelia was alive all this time. So... what was the point of all that? What was the point of Merga's whole character? What game am I playing right now? But all critiques aside, this is a fantastic game. The writing is top-notch, and I remember some times where I audibly laughed at some jokes. This game does justice to an era that most gamers missed out on for various reasons. Best of all? This cliffhanger may hint at a threequel. I think the third game should be called 3Dom Planet and should have 3D gameplay to reflect Sonic's history circa the Adventure Era. I feel strongly about this.

After playing the first game, I can't believe the second one was out of the radar for me. Which should be a crime because this is an major step up from FP1. The pixel art, the gameplay, the combat, and everything else is just spectacular. I would definitely recommend this game to Sonic fans and people who like platformers in general.
Probably the best Sonic-like you can think of.
FREEDOM PLANET 2 É SIMPLESMENTE O MELHOR JOGO DE PLATAFORMA QUE EU JÁ JOGUEI NA MINHA VIDA!!!!
What Freedom Planet 1 did great, this game PERFECTED. 10/10
i like
Has more Dragon racism than an entire DnD campaign
