Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.33/day in the week to Aug 5 → 0.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

For any serious FF fan. Then you must play in order to finish FF4 story. But this isn't as a good or even close to FF4. 6/10.

Its a very nice little remake. I've never actually played the 2d one but for a short time, so this is pretty much like a new experience to me.
This sad excuse for a follow up to a game that was nicely wrapped up and didn't need a sequel in the first place is complete garbage. The story is hardly interesting and repetitive like ass, and the 100% completion includes BS like: - grinding an absurd level of band skills. - killing the same mob over and over hoping to get an item with < 1% drop chance (and there's multiple of those!) - completing the bestiary includes running around for ages to find rare encounters (that show up only during specific moon phases) for hours... that are so overpowered compared to the player's natural progression that you get one-shot immediately on turn 1 ; unless you've spent literal HOURS grinding. This piece of crap has no respect for the player's time and I've already sunk too much of mine down that drain. @who ever at SE thought bringing this was game into existance and the BS mentioned above was a good idea: I hope you step on legos every remaining days of your life.
Despite what other's say I'm enjoy thing game really much, yeah some things change but is still as fun as the first Final Fantasy IV ds. Is nice to be able to enjoy what happened after the main game since I never got a ds to try this before. The story is well written and lots of new characters we get to meet.
Disappointing End to a Great Title
As a fan of the original Final Fantasy 4, going all the way back to 1992, it's a bittersweet experience to finally play a sequel to that excellent game. The characters are all present, but they behave like lifeless versions of their old selves. A new adventure exists, but it's literally the same events all over again with new people spliced in for the old. A lot of old items are back (without explanation), but their stats are nerfed. What was the point of this? Many of the best items are hidden behind horrible drop rates. The monsters that drop them have horrible encounter rates. And these encounters are sometimes gated behind this game's primary gimmick: lunar phases. Every 20 or 30 minutes real time, the moon phase changes, which will affect your abilities in battle. Some get stronger, others weaken, but it's a system that adds no depth and you'll wish it wasn't there because it becomes a random "thing" you have to keep track of. The characters themselves are all gimped compared to their FF4 versions. Where previously stats could be controlled past level 70, they're now stuck on predetermined paths. This might be OK, if there were ways for a character to max an appropriate stat, but this doesn't happen. Further, your stat gains decline strongly after level 70. Why would you punish the player by making their hardest gains grant the least amount of reward? This 3D version of the game is missing a good deal of content from the 2D versions present on the Wii and PSP. Not sure why, although it's not as though this content would have made a real difference. If I had to write this game's epitaph, it would be "wasted opportunity". This sequel will frustrate fans of the original game while giving nothing satisfying to anyone looking for a flashback to 90s JRPG excellence. With so many problems, it would have been better if Square had not made this game.
To begin with the good stuff, FF4: The After Years is a technically competent JRPG. It's playable. The combat works. Itemization is kind of clever, sometimes. As faint of praise as that is, I feel like a lot of JRPGs fail to clear this very low hurdle, even ones that people seem to swear by (I'm still mad at how little I enjoyed any of my time with Trails in the Sky). Somehow, I've played this game on Wii, PSP, and PC. That's about it. Beyond just barely clearing the lowest bar in history, this game just has so many things working against it:
Final Fantasy IV did not need a sequel
The first problem (and really the source of all the others) is that The After Years really has no justifiable reason to exist. FF4 has one of the most self-contained stories in the series; there's not really enough to go off of to extend the story as either a sequel OR prequel. FF4 is also by far the least mechanically unique game in the series (ATB was, at the time, groundbreaking, but it being used for all five of the games that followed it really diminishes that as a unique trait), and so the systems don't really set themselves up to be built on in a way that's unique and adds something to the proceedings. From the word 'go', everything about this game sets itself up to be a confusing cash grab that, at best, just kinda plays the hits.
The sequel we got is a confusing cash grab that, at best, just kinda plays the hits
Final Fantasy is a series that's no stranger to making spinoffs and sequels to its mainline games. Some of them are pretty good! But what all of them have that The After Years lacks is some desire to do something new. A bunch of time has passed since the first game, but none of the characters seem to have meaningfully moved on from where they were at the end of that game. Every character from the original (except the one who Dies For Real) returns and plays pretty much exactly how you expect them to. The game introduces new characters but never seems to want to truly give them room to breathe. The central plot still seems to revolve around the same five characters as the original, even though they have very little story left to tell. The supporting cast is still there, and even though most of them have their own chapters in the game, they still somehow fail to justify their existence and end up with ultimately forgettable, meandering plots that mostly amount to "Uh-oh, the moon's back :( Also, here's my kid/subordinate/friend. They won't do much, either." Ceodore is the only new character who really has a story that actually justifies him existing as a playable character in a sequel that would make sense to exist, and most of his story amounts to him getting styled on by the other characters in his party, who are often literally nameless, generic dudes. Of the returning characters, only two (
Palom and Kain
) even HAVE character development that isn't just retreading old ground in a "Hey remember Final Fantasy IV? You liked that game, right?" way.
The 3D remake feels like a soulless remake of a soulless sequel
I don't actually know if I prefer the 2D or 3D version of FF4, but I can say that the 3D remake did try to do something new and justify its existence as something more than just a different coat of paint over the same game. The After Years' 3D remake is mostly a straight asset-flip of the 3D FF4, changing almost nothing from The After Years in a positive or even lateral way. Bands, the game's team-up moves, operate slightly differently. Every other change is strictly worse, mainly, the removal of challenge dungeons and a bunch of endgame bosses from the 2D versions. Challenge dungeons in the 2D versions were hit-or-miss, but when they hit, they were probably the only part of the game that actually felt worthwhile. So, removing those entirely without a clear replacement really leaves the game with nothing to make it worth your time.
🎮 Reseña de FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS

Everything about this game is terrible. The reused dungeons, the GRINDING, and the bland new characters just made this a terrible experience I do NOT recommend. final boss is cool tho
Why in the ♥♥♥♥ would they choose the Mobile version of this game to port to PC? This is horrible. Slow post battle screens, zoomed in perspective, ugly menu and chat box, ugly sprites, mini-map that literally makes you pay attention to it more than the main screen, and BUGS TO THIS DAY. Yeah, ♥♥♥♥ this game. Don't buy it. They should have just ported the 2D version of this game, it would have been infinitely better than this piece of ♥♥♥♥. I'm uninstalling this garbage. Wish I could refund it, but I've owned it this long and never played it.
