Fear Effect

I haven't beaten the game yet, but so far it is really fun and runs well on the deck.

По суті це емулятор. Можливість відмотки і збереження де завгодно певною мірою спрощують гру, але в цьому випадку це більше на користь. Цікаві персонажі. Деякі пазли прям дуже складні. Меню вибору предметів трохи незручне. Інколи бувають ситуації, коли після катсцени майже одразу починається бій і треба встигати проклікувати до потрібної зброї, ухилятися від ворогів і потім ще й цілитись. Такі момменти відчуваються нечесними.

A charming but utterly frustrating experience, marred by clunky controls and unresponsive inputs. If your nostalgia beckons you to replay this on Steam, know that you're essentially getting a direct port, compressed FMV cutscenes, warts and all, of the Playstation original. However, you are given the mercy of a Quick Save and Rewind function that'll surely stop you from forfeiting before the game hooks you in with its unique blend of survival horror, cyberpunk and adventure gameplay. Fear Effect is an underrated gem that has been seemingly been lost to time and deserves a proper remaster. Updated controls and HD versions of the original character models, FMV backgrounds and cutscenes would make this immediately more accessible to a new generation to rediscover.

My days of playing Fear Effect began on the PS1 in 2000. I learned about the game from PSM and was intrigued with how the graphics featured dynamic backgrounds that really moved, which at the time was ground breaking to me. I had never seen anything like it. I rented the game and was able to beat it in a few days. I don't remember how I was able to successfully complete it before. I must've had a guide book or looked up the puzzle solutions on Gamefaqs because there's no way I would've been able to solve them on my own. Some of them were mind boggingly hard. WhenI finally got a chance to replay this game 26 years later because I wanted to relive my teenage nostalgia, the puzzles still stump me, and I had to resort to watching Youtube videos which is a huge godsend, otherwise I would've given up. I didn't find enjoyment in finishing the puzzles, I merely saw them as obstacles and all I wanted to do was to shoot things. There were a few occasions when I ran out of ammo and I had to either knife them as I'm getting shot at and dying and reloading my save over until getting past it which was profoundly annoying. Dodging enemy attacks by simply rolling was quite comical. The storyline didn't interest me much and I wasn't emotionally invested in any of the characters, although I did get some mild amusement from certain parts like playing as Hana while she's wearing a bath towel and then stripping her naked in front of an enemy as a distraction measure, or dressing up as a prostitute as a disguise to avoid gunfights. Despite some of my gripes, this game still charms me, probably because of how it brings me back to my childhood days on gaming on the PS1.
