The story and most of the puzzles were fine but the mechanics got frustrating. The inventory function was extremely annoying because sometimes you could just click and drag the object to solve the puzzle and others you had to double click. Similarly, some puzzles it was way to easy to misclick and mess up the orientation of pieces. Also the simple maze puzzle was so frustrating because dragging the path through the puzzle just didn't seem to work at times.

Artifex Mundi einfach beste Spiel gefällt mir sehr gut
This is the best AM HO game so far. More variety and detail. No push key through lock to land on newspaper sequence. HOGs were varied and enjoyable. Great quality. Small Con: The big green flag on the map was a bit counter intuitive for going to available actions. This game was different. Some confusion. Sliding puzzle was quite the endeavor.
This is a great game and after playing to many older HOGs, it's refreshing to have modern mechanics. An excellent combat mini-game which is really good, and very fun throughout. If I have two criticisms, it would be the bonus chapter and voice acting in it being really bad. Strange that the main game is such high quality but the bonus chapter is so poorly done.
Family Mysteries: Poisonous Promises is a polished hidden-object puzzle adventure that leans heavily into the style of glossy crime dramas, delivering a story filled with wealth, betrayal, and carefully hidden secrets. Developed by Brave Giant LTD and published by Artifex Mundi, the game embraces familiar genre conventions while dressing them in a glamorous coastal setting that gives the investigation a distinctive atmosphere. From the outset, it presents itself as a tightly paced detective tale where every luxurious location and suspicious character hints at something darker beneath the surface. The story begins with a poisoning tied to a wealthy family and quickly escalates into a far-reaching conspiracy involving corruption, greed, and long-buried lies. You step into the role of a determined detective working alongside your partner Duke, following leads that take you through marinas, mansions, industrial backrooms, and sunlit cityscapes that contrast sharply with the crimes being uncovered. The narrative unfolds episodically, with each chapter adding new twists that reframe earlier events, keeping the mystery engaging even when the overall structure remains linear. Gameplay follows the traditional hidden-object formula, focusing on searching richly detailed scenes for specific items while piecing together clues. These scenes are visually dense and thematically consistent, often rewarding careful observation while occasionally testing patience when objects are cleverly obscured. Between searches, the game introduces a wide variety of puzzles and mini-games designed to break up the pacing. These range from logic challenges and mechanical contraptions to familiar pattern-based puzzles, offering consistent variety even if some mechanics will feel familiar to seasoned genre fans. Exploration is handled through classic point-and-click navigation, guiding players smoothly from one location to the next without excessive backtracking. This streamlined approach keeps the investigation moving and prevents frustration, though it also means environments are often experienced briefly rather than revisited in depth. Interactions with characters are largely story-driven, with dialogue and cutscenes pushing the plot forward rather than branching into optional investigative paths. This makes the experience feel more like an interactive crime drama than an open-ended detective simulation. Visually, Poisonous Promises is one of the stronger entries in its genre. The artwork is crisp and colorful, with each location carefully composed to reflect the story’s themes of luxury, danger, and deception. Backgrounds are filled with small details that enhance immersion, and character portraits help give personality to suspects and allies alike. Full voice acting further supports the presentation, adding energy to the narrative even when dialogue occasionally leans into melodrama. A bonus chapter expands the story by revisiting the infamous yacht incident at the center of the mystery, offering additional puzzles and context that flesh out unresolved questions. This extra content adds value and helps the story feel more complete, particularly for players invested in uncovering every layer of the conspiracy. Achievements and collectibles also provide light incentives for thorough play, though they remain secondary to the core narrative experience. Despite its strengths, the game does show some genre fatigue. Certain puzzle types repeat frequently, and players experienced with Artifex Mundi titles may recognize familiar patterns and solutions. Occasionally, hidden-object scenes rely more on visual clutter than clever placement, and some story beats resolve conveniently rather than organically. These issues don’t derail the experience, but they do prevent it from standing out as a truly groundbreaking entry. Overall, Family Mysteries: Poisonous Promises succeeds as a confident and entertaining hidden-object adventure that knows exactly what it wants to deliver. Its strength lies in atmosphere, presentation, and steady narrative momentum rather than innovation. For fans of crime-themed puzzle games and story-driven investigations, it offers several hours of engaging mystery wrapped in a stylish setting. While it may not surprise seasoned players, it delivers a satisfying and well-crafted experience that fits comfortably within the genre’s best traditions. Rating: 7/10
