This game is dirty, grimy, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, hard, sometimes anger inducing, methodical and sometimes really repetitive I fcuking love it, check out 1 or 2 when you can
Golden classic. The game that started the whole franchise it's still pretty fun if you're into this kind of game but it's dated both in game-design and UI/UX, and it doesn't hold any punches if you try to get into it as a new player. It takes for granted that you read the manual just like old times since in-game you don't really get much help on what button does what. I believe you don't even get told about the keyboard shortcuts in-game but I could be mistaken. The character creation screen is still a highlight of mine because of how detailed it is about how S.P.E.C.I.A.L. directly effects everything on your character and because of how straightforward they are about telling you the calculations on how they influence the skills. Also, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes truly are what MAKES your character here, you can completely lock out of certain playstyles on early/mid or sometimes even late game because of them. Story is good enough with mysteries and twists, and the atmosphere is still pretty characteristically... Fallout. It has wacky/funny moments here and there but the vibe is grim as a baseline.
This has been on my backlog for what feels like ages. Been 10 year since I finished fallout 2 , I have had this since about 2013. The atmosphere is like fallout 1 , some extent 3 and new vegas top notch. The setting to. Exploring the vaults in this game is still quiet good The last fight is good and a little creepy I like the characters you meet and the portrait. The story and the lore is quiet good It has hold up decent. The ai is somewhat bad, but that luckily both ways. So you will get alot of deaths due to stupid ai. Or the ai killing themself because they are standing in the way of each other. The rng can both be with you or not here I fine the gameplay fine. That if you have companions that you can give them new weapons, with ammo. Or healing items etc. That you can use them to carry extra loot. I also like that you can talk to them and they have different formations you can use, that can help a little. The game is quiet poorly at explaining you mechanic or how you can do stuff, so either you figure those things out quiet late like me on some of them or you search for some of them like I also did. Like that you can examine objects directly and then select skill instead of clicking an skill then on the object. The quest log is ok. It shows you where you got the quest and what to do. But, then there alot of quest it doesnt show either so some you have to memorize. The music also quiet good. The weapon variety is also decent. Still recommended.
I have completed the game peacefully with a high speech percentage and a decent amount of intelligence. In my next playthrough i will finish all the side quests. This game is pretty good for a very old game and the story is interesting, i don't like the idea of you having a timer for when to bring the water chip, but other than that it's a very good game. Taking down a mutant army and it's leader as a single random vault dweller is interesting.
Unless you, like me, just need to experience if for yourself, I'd stick to watching lore videos. I think people who say this game aged well, especially in terms of game mechanics and gameplay, are blinded by nostalgia. They know all the tricks to get it to work, so they don't think twice of how janky it really is. But this game is a buggy mess, saved by it's expansive lore, and interesting stories. If you are a newcomer to this game, you will have a hard time. Every solution to a problem, and YOU WILL run into one, seems to be to reload a save. So get used to saving, but you can also lock yourself out of things if you save wrong (don't save in combat btw, that will corrupt the file), so make sure to have two saves, maybe alternate between two saves, and have a third one per arriving to a different location. Ideally you should probably have four saves per play-though, and that is btw, INSANE! As I'm writing this, I'm locked out and will have to go back to a much father save if I want to continue. I am at the location of the second to last boss (depending on how you play) and I'm pretty sure I'm stuck because I can't get passed these emitters that randomly turned on. I don't have equipment to turn them back off. the game also never even attempts to tell you how to get passed them. Oh, and the location is set to self destruct. When I try to bomb the emitters, the game crashes. So, just know you can get so far, only for something so stupid to spoil your whole play-though and set you back hours. That said, there's a lot to love about this game, that's why I'm recommending it, while starting off with some abridged frustrations. It wouldn't continue to be talked about today, if there wasn't. Though a lot of it has to do with it's story, and the other might just be experience how old CRPGS were back then, and see how things have changed. I can only really recommend this game to Fallout fans who absolutely need to experience it firsthand despite it's flaws, and masochists.
After finally playing and beating Fallout: A post nuclear roleplaying game I can safely say it was amazing. If your looking for a gritty dark humor edgy violent game then this is for you. besides somethings that annoyed me a tiny bit like how the game skill checks it's amazing.
