Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

Fallout 3 is an amazing that completely redefined open world RPGs ever since its launch in 2008. Unfortunately it is, as with many other Bethesda games, riddled with bugs and optimization issues. Playing this game in the year 2026 is almost impossible without modifying the files in some way but regardless on modern performance issues, there game at launch was already a mess. Looking past that the main story has always been very mediocre to me. I don’t think enough time was spent really developing a relationship with some of the more vital characters in the story which often leaves me questioning just why am I doing many if the things I’m doing in the first place. The gameplay loop, setting, and player freedom on the other hand is really what carries the game on its back. Wandering the wasteland and discovering weird creatures, creative weaponry, and new companions gives this game almost infinite enjoyment and replay value. Tons of fun but mediocre story. 8/10

This game is very good. It was very innovative as a fallout game at it's time, and provided an amazing new open world unlike any player had seen at the time. But, this games's story and humor falls short of the story and humor that the other main fallout games (fallout 1 and 2) had and what really made the fallout franchise so memorable. The ending was very anti-climatic and unceremonious, though it was nice to see and play through the game after we brought hope to the wasteland making us feel like what we did mattered. In summary, this game lacks in soul and heart thought it's still a very good game to this day and does have it's charm, but i honestly believe that fallout: new vegas is a better game, as it brings back the humor of the first two games and has a very good story with plenty of memorable characters and locations. So if you are looking to play your first fallout game i would recomend fallout:new vegas, as you don't need to play the games in order to understand the story.
