A fun and addictive game that keeps you hooked as you explore the island. The thrill of optimizing package deliveries (routes and arrangement in backpack) while simultaneously uncovering mysteries of this futuristic yet technologically challenged and calm place keeps the experience engaging.
Edit: I have found a solution to my issue and managed to continue playing. You have to run at the bridge and then press A at just the right moment. I'm preserving my thoughts below just to illustrate my confusion. I still hope for more instructions to be added in the menu. I started off having such a great time with this little game with my six-year-old, but we needed to give up. We were running around in circles, doing the same quests over and over again. Finally, I had to look up on YouTube what we need to do to advance the main story. I unlocked the door with the rusty key but I cannot cross the bridge that requires sprinting. I tried everything I could think of, damaging my entire load in the process. I tried several in-game days in a row, using my entire stamina bar in the process. I've watched YT playthroughs. I brought other family members in to brainstorm what we should do. We couldn't figure it out and now we're going to need to move on with our lives. I don't understand why there aren't instructions for the minigames in the menu or an ability to skip them. I was hoping that my six year old would be able to play this, but the mini games are too fiddly for her and if she fails then we damage our goods, so she doesn't want to even attempt them after we've failed multiple times. Or some sort of easy mode for younger and inexperienced players? I wish we could just skip this bridge jumping game because we have no idea what the game expects of us. I really hope to return to this game after a patch.
Ellietendo's Review Of Fading Serenades
I received a free copy of this game for review purposes. I used a mouse & keyboard combo for gameplay.
Pros:

Cute Art Style – Looking at this game, it gives me ‘Stardew Valley’ vibes. I was immediately drawn to it. Once I delve into the game deeper, I knew that I would thoroughly enjoy it. The cute art style is just a bonus.
Simple & Accessible Gameplay – The button layout of “Fading Serenades” is so simple, however the key thing that made it even better is the fact that the key binds are adjustable. It made it so much easier for me to tap the keys needed in order to cross a particular section of the map.
Cozy Theme – I do love a cozy themed game, especially when it’s set on an island, those often do well. “Fading Serenades” has a clear and greatly simple objective; having to do postal tasks to the villagers on the island. That’s it.

Cons:

Sensitive Controls – The only negative point I can make about this game is that sometimes when playing the ‘Crossing’ mini-games, it can be hard to control the button inputs. I end up ‘Failing’ quite a bit, equally it could just be me being bad, so this is a small critique.

Overall:
I would be sure to recommend this game as it an adorable take on a well-established genre. At first it seems very simple, but as time goes on, you become more and more invested not only in the story, but also the very villages that you are taking care of. The best way of describing this game is a Stardew Valley art style meets Animal Crossing ‘Delivery Tasks’. It also helps having the extra benefit of cozy qualities. Well done “Fading Serenades” for creating a really simple but original game.
played the demo and am currently playing through the full game. so far what i enjoy about it remains the same; it's a small-ish game by one dev (i think?) with a lovely, lowkey vibe and a little mystery fed to you at a decent pace. easy to pick up and play in small bursts. i'm always impressed with how much worldbuilding can be done with so little, and this game is a good example of that. i haven't played bernie wick's previous game yet, but fading serenades makes me wanna. bernie if you're reading this, thank you for making this game and i hope you make another one because i love your style and the things you have to say with your work.
From the moment I saw the font on the first screen of this game I felt I was in good hands (I’m not sure what font it is, font fans, but I like it!). And, yes, it turned out that the pixel art is gorgeous too. Even more impressive is the wonderful music, which is the amongst the best I’ve heard this year. You play as a courier on a mysterious island, which you explore as you deliver letters and packages. It is repetitive, but in an artistically soothing way, and an interesting wee story about humans’ relationship with technology unravels as you discover more of the island (the story and topographical discoveries complement each other beautifully). The simple writing and storytelling is effective and quietly engaging. I had a relaxing time with this utterly charming game. Lovely stuff!
The soundtracks throughout the entire playthrough will get copyright on youtube (no monetization), with no option for an in-game "streamer safe" mode. I also never received a reply from Bernhard about this issue when posed directly and personally to him. Huge disappointment. Please license your ♥♥♥♥ music correctly and quit harming creators. Just warning peeps against this game. btw, you can click the "(Homepage)" button next to the Developer and/or Publisher on the Store Page bio and then click the cogwheel to "Ignore this creator" so that all other and future games get hidden, works great for AI slop as well.
I enjoyed my time being the new delivery guy on the island in Fading Serenades. The art style is nice, the music is gorgeous. I love to spend my time running around and helping out the islanders. It's a very chill and relaxing atmophere. Especially great to cool off after work. Getting upgrades and their use feels balanced to me. Of course the beginning is slower then later on in game, but it still feels fair because the part of the map the player can reach in the beginning is smaller. The beginning doesn't feel tedious which is important and how the map opens up feels also good in a way so the player can get accustomed to how this game works. The mini games are quite cool too. Not too complicated but still a nice change every now and then so traveling across the island isn't boring. The only part that was rather dissatisfying was the story. It unfolded weirdly and the end was quite disappointing to me. So don't expect an impactful story. But if you search for a cool and relaxing game, then I recommend checking this game out.
The warm color harmonies and soothing music create a relaxing atmosphere for you to explore the island and carry out tasks at your leisure. The pixel patterns and shading in the background art create a nice sense of texture, depth, and lighting as well, and the shadows of clouds slowly moving overhead were a nice touch. I especially enjoyed the pixel "Starry Night" in Copper's office, since it reminded me of simpler days when I would make similar art. Also, a funny story: The first time I encountered a log, I reflexively picked it up just to have it in my inventory, as you often do in games. But then I kept falling into the water when trying to cross log bridges because the encumbrance made it harder to balance, all because I insisted on carrying around a huge log for no reason. Later, when I found the broken bridge in High Orchard, I hoped I could use the log to span it, but no dice. Maybe I'll find a use for my log later... One thing I did find odd is that when I got the running shoes, they took up an inventory slot. I figured they'd just replace my existing non-running shoes. It made more sense when I got the climbing shoes, though, since I'm having to carry multiple specialized shoe types. Maybe you could have the running shoes replace the existing shoes, and have climbing cleats as an add-on upgrade, so they don't take up inventory slots? Just a thought. Beautiful game, anyway!
Ein sehr nettes und charmantes Game. Genau richtig zum entspannen auf dem SteamDeck oÄ.
