So, in honesty, I didn't pay full price. I had read so many bad reviews about the 22 version I wasn't going to chuck money at it just because I enjoy F1, so I waited for the sale. Do I enjoy F1 manager? No. The game is so beautifully flawed, that I really can't recommend it. It's got nothing to do with in game results, but just the structure of it. 1 - Car Development. I got so frustrated with the process in the first play-through that I went and read up online. The only way to be competitive it seemed was to go for the lowest weighted parts, that break easily, so you then end up spending too much replacing them. The next season, straight back at the beginning despite lots of research and had the worst car again. It seemed the computer teams all knew we'd lose money, and thus worked on the following season's car. And there's no fun just picking red bull and winning. It seems the path to success is not well balanced. 2 - Drivers wanted 10-20m despite having worse skills than Piastri (yes, I chose McLaren). 3 - Staff - my favourite stupid thing. The game allowed me to poach Ferrari's chief. What an amazing upgrade I thought! But then, all I got was report after report that his morale was low (it was "okay". And yet, the entire set of facilities was at the max, and we were finishing 1-2 all season, and the top ranked team on the paddock. What a grumpy git! Nothing pleases him. 🤣 4 - Car Setup & Experience - thank goodness for some online resources. IRL the teams would have some knowledge of the right sort of setup per track, and would have a starting position. In F1 Manager, you're back to square zero each season. So, when it comes to the sprint races, you simply have almost no chance to get a 90%+ setup. Go and read online for the reload approach people take to get closer. And the drivers are no better here. You could be managing Lewis Hamilton, and yet at the start of each race he has no experience of the track, as if he's never been there. Just seems such a silly suggestion, whilst it makes sense to run laps, it doesn't make sense to know nothing. 5 - Instructions. How would you like your drivers to start the race? Just at a slow pace, and a bit of an arse-scratching meander? No, you want them, especially if on pole, to go at full pace, full nitro 😜🌶️ use every bit of ERS and be majorly aggressive to get to the first corner? Can you do that? Well, errr, yes, but only if you start the race (so they're already moving off the line) and pause the game. Then you can set the "go aggressive, use ERS, etc). EVERY RACE. How pointless. What a waste of clicks, and UX. At least let me set the default for the season. Or let me do all of those options before the actual start. All you can do pre-start is the fuel, and tyre usage. Not to be mega aggressive in overtaking. It's just another example where it's not really "designed" but shoved in. 5 - Messages. I get they cannot get lots of time from drivers and team principals, and engineers, but when Lando goes "Box, did you say box? I can't here you? Ok box I think" for the 100th time, I lost the will to live and turned off the sound. Such a small range of options and moments. Just seems dreadful. Yes, I was being silly giving it the same number. If they can repeat things, so can I in my review! And the 6 notifications that Piastri ran wide, or locked up before the game continues again ... It's infuriating. A bit like Football Manager and FIFA, if you've got this version, I'll be staggered to see what the benefit for buying a whole new game is going to be. I'm doubting it. I can categorically say I will NOT be wishlisting it based on the experience with the 23 version. What was the most fun? Finding a way to blow up my opponents tyres at will and watch them stagger back to the pits, and then doing that in quali and watching the Haas take the pole with the top teams out in the first session. If you like car racing management, go and buy Motorsport Manager. It's more fun, got more options, and (was) cheaper. I'd probably buy a new version of that.

Lots of fun if you want to get a feel for manageing an F1 team(No duh that why you got the game) and dabling in car setups.
For an F1 enthusiast, this is a great game. Although this game has many shortcomings, I really like it. I hope the new 2024 model can have many highlights. Looking forward to it!
