About
eXoSpace Combat Engineer combines the gridless spaceship building of Reassembly, the intense combat of Nova Drift, and the unpredictable hyperjump encounters of FTL.

Using a fully gridless, intuitive snap-and-rotate designer, you balance weapons, thrust, energy and armor, use advanced mechanical parts like pistons and hinges to build transforming warships, or install hangars to deploy swarms of custom-designed drones.

Take your custom vessel into Bounty Hunt mode, navigating asteroid storms, pirate ambushes, and random encounters as you evolve your ship from a basic drone into a true dreadnought to survive intense, bullet-hell boss fights.

Mission-based game loop: complete missions to increase in rank and build even bigger ships to hunt more dangerous targets.
Gridless spaceship designer that lets you easily snap parts together in any angle, allowing you to quickly try out new designs or upgrade your ship.
Design your own drones and deploy swarms of them from your hangars.
Intuitive engineering constraints: balance thrusters, weapons, energy and armor to create an effective warship.
Bullet-hell boss fights: each mission ends with an epic phased boss-fight. Find weak points while dodging projectiles.
A fully-featured sandbox allowing you to build any ship, create your own faction, and share it with a click on the Steam Workshop. You can even build your own boss!
The Galactic Arena: face design and piloting challenges ranging from 1 vs 1 drone skirmishes to cruiser battles.
More than 600 different ship designs to discover, including many community creations.
More than 200 parts to build your ship with, including powerful faction-specific weapons.
5 playable factions with their own tech tree, powerful unique parts, and crew.
And more is added in regular updates!

The game is a typical RNG simulator where what you've previously unlocked doesn't matter. Nothing you've earned during missions carries over, just cash. No modules, materials, even blueprints... nothing. If I knew how much influence I had on my gameplay, I'd spend that money on a kebab. <edit> @Fantastimaker Thank you very much for your answer, since we are here - apparently I just can't read I am familiar with the concept of 'roguelikes' and please point me to at least one sentence (or tag) in the description that insinuates that this game is a roguelike. because it seems that I'm the one causing problems here.
Although the game is fun and I like the concept, I don't see the point of saving the design of ships if you lose all blueprints and metals after every mission. It would be more fun if there was a storyline in which the progress is slower but in which you don't lose everything you unlocked after every boss. Another approach would be to make blueprints rarer but let the player carry them over to the next mission.

So, here I am, posting my first negative review. When I was part of the playtest I enjoyed the grind. Working myself up not being able to finish a hunt, but keeping the parts and blueprinting my ships. Now I start over... from having no parts. I bought this game to build ships. The combat is fun but I don't like loosing the parts I worked HOURs to pick up. I get that may tickle the rest of you all, but not me. Give us an option please to keep the parts and still play the game.
There is a whole host of things that need fixing but the two biggest things are that each run is hella short (think of FTL/Slay the Spire but only 1 zone?!) and the AI is way too jank. In time, it could be good. As it is, nah. I'd wait.
Remember Reassembly? Wanted a game that had the same building and fighting system? Wanted to have more things to do? Wanted more weapons and parts like hinges and hangar bays? Wanted cool bossfights that didnt tank the game? This game has all that, but you will be missing the open world, for FTL style instances The only thing I dont like? the research pushes you to kill everyone in order to get it, since its based on the number of times you kill a certain build, thus this resulted in me going to war with the faction that uh...you spawn in their sector when you start a run, so every time I do a new run its a rush to warp out of the sector before my aft gets blown off by 3 battle stations. On the flip side, I found that if you 1 shot people they dont get angry with you, so you can usually kill like 2-3 small ships without any consequences.
I thought the demo was fun, so I decided to take a risk and buy the game. I appreciate the customization and the difficulty (the first two grids was a no-win situation, so I turned tail and ran. Flew. Space travelled. Whatever.). I super appreciate that this is an indie dev, and I am 100% inclined to support an innovative game (that reminds me a bit of Reassembly)... looking forward to see what more this game brings. Hoping there will be more of a campaign / mission style, but for now on day 1 of EA, I am still having fun!
Fun and addictive. Similar to games like cosmoteer or reassembly. Haven't encountered any bugs or crashes so far and it's working flawlessly under linux. Just released into EA and needs obviously more work and balancing but it's surprisingly fleshed out already in this early stage. Especially when starting a new game it's a gamble if your first few encounters are a good introduction and a chance to gather some materials or if you're just nuked out of existence. And the bounty hunt feels not really rewarding - it doesn't matter if you rush through or if you spent your time exploring and building a massive ship - you only get some credits to unlock some perks or prebuilds but what you did to reach that goal is practically meaningless and gone. This needs more love to reward both the speed-runners and the completionists in different ways.
Really wanted to like this game since I like building my own ships and all, plus they recently added hangars apparently, and I love carrier ships. They've also fixed several issues others have had too. Unfortunately, I've spent over two hours doing nothing but struggling to kill the first boss, which is an insane bullet sponge, has massive point defense, and instakills me if it hits me. I've given up because it simply isn't possible for me to beat it. I just finished spending 30 minutes grinding it down to 20% hp before being one-shot and losing all my progress on it. And this is after farming the mission up until the boss, resetting it, and farming it again, multiple times, in order to make a much larger and stronger ship. My original ship wouldn't have even managed to scratch it at all. The creator has said on the forums that they're making it less difficult, but not sure that it will be enough at this point. For anyone trying the game, don't use missiles. You can't aim them at weak spots, they got shot down easily, and they miss small or fast targets often. And you get limited unlock points, so if you spend them on missiles like me, you're just screwed.
It's *fine*. I did a whole "bounty". Took about 2 hours, and in those 2 hours I only ever found two weapon types (missiles and regular laser shots). The final boss was a ridiculous bullet sponge. Even after defeating the "weak points" , killing the now-non-threatening core took foreeeeeever. Very whelming.
