There's a ton of potential here and I'm leaving a positive review, but buyer beware: * There is extremely rapid development, on the level of 3-4 patches a day with patch notes. This is not happening via a beta branch, so regardless of when you start a run, expect drastic balance changes affecting your run during the run with nothing you can do about it short of blocking Steam updates. I haven't bothered getting out of Season 1 yet because of this, which in a game where the developer locks features like "compendium access" and "ability to play all classes from the beginning of a run" behind grinding out seasons, is bad. * Shared/Split co-op is essentially "let Player 2 manually control a fighter on Player 1's team/run", there is no option to have multiple teams in a league, and no online multiplayer version of having multiple teams in a league either. This is in a game where the majority of players seem to opt for auto battler over manually controlled combat, so for those players, co-op doesn't exist. What does exist, and oddly isn't tagged on the store page, is Async multiplayer which currently is something of a high score competition where players submit their best teams and simulate matches against each other. I don't see the appeal of a mode that rewards grind over other factors (especially with the game being so frequently rebalanced), but its something the developer is really invested in. * Volume balance is all over the place. Main menu music is blaring, combat has much louder SFX than music (there's sliders to rebalance this), but much of the non-combat music is quiet. * There's a lack of clarity in how stats work and scale. Tooltips exist, but they're often vague or unclear in what they're referring to. I still have no idea how level ups work, where they list a random +X value for stats and below them list a supposed actual stat increase. Since I don't know how stats or automatic level up stat gains scale, I can't make an informed decision nor can I judge how impactful a reroll would be. This extends to skill descriptions, which have unclear tooltipping and reference Stamina/Mana costs which for character classes are stupidly hidden behind a locked codex prior to owning the character (this is a game where you frequently shop for characters!) If a skill costs X MP but I don't know how much MP regen a class has because of a gated unlock, how can I judge how good the skill is? * I'm not a fan of the F1-F4 keys that ask the player to be actively involved in the auto battler mode of combat control. I'd rather be on the same level with the AI opponents and neither of us having control, with the pre-battle tactics and squad quality being the determining factor.

Such great potential, but well... it gets monotonous. RNG here, RNG there, punishment comes in almost every aspect. It's not that you can do a good job, it's luck. You can replay the same fight repeatedly until you get lucky. I am getting tired of games where "luck" is the real win/loss decider. Yes, you can totally "rig" the system but that is also based on luck. Start the game... get bad characters up and down the roster? Yea, it happens a lot. Plus... I have been playing for a week... dev seems to be nerfing everything. I used to roll for random characters right? except you could see their values to get a quick summery of potential... on noes... dev removes you from being able to see them. This game also have to much click ops carpel tunnel. Why can't I just use my arrow keys on the keyboard? I have to press down AND press enter to show the stats of the character in the roster? Pay to scout some units? Prefect... that will be 2k... yes... they will all be garbage... well maybe one will be okay. Every design choice in this game is intended to cause pain in some way... and it looks intentional. Poorly designed UI and the same fight over and over and over again. Yes, it was fun at first... but that is part of the problem... you see everything up front... there is nothing else to see again that I have found. And sure, there are a lot of characters... too many in fact... but that is also the problem. And lets talk about skills... very few of them actually match their description. You have to try them out to see. Not only that... but take the skill for the healers that say "heals each team mate it passes through" or "heals and damages" but it's a lie. The moment the object touches either a friend or foe it is destroyed. It NEVER passes through anything. And finally... AI... it's atrocious in some cases. I watched some of my units just stand and do nothing. Won't help others, won't heal themselves, won't even attack... regardless of the personality type they are. Stoics so stoic they just watch the team die without doing anything, even when they are being attacked. Tactical geniuses that go right through 3 units to attack the one in the rear... except they get ganked trying to do this. Is there a unit nearby that should be attack? Naw fam... I want to go after the one across the battle field... the one smacking 33% of my life with every attack is nothing but a fly running up on me. So much potential... I just can't keep at it. I hope this changes in the future so I will be keeping an eye out!
