Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.14/day in the week to Sep 9 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

An unusual story; no romances
If you do a bit of research, you might notice ooh! Steam cards, yes, and ooh! Steam achievements, yes. Look a little closer at the achievements, and you'll see they seem based on three characters, with each character having a couple of variations on a theme. Interestingly, none of them are romantic interests. And while the protagonist is a guy, so too are two of the focal characters. In some ways, I found the story a bit confusing. It seemed to me that the writer didn't fully understand what they were trying to accomplish - some elements of the plot either remained not fully thought out or explained, other times I wondered at the direction of the story. Indeed, I can't even rightly call any of the endings a 'good' ending, and the game has an overall sadness to it. Even the ending that cues the rolling credits doesn't really live up to expectations. Part of the problem may be the running idea (trying to avoid spoilers here) that the island's inhabitants are often likened to cattle. They are all emotionally stunted, as you'll find out if you play it. I don't think Enigma will ever rate very highly for me. There are a plethora of reasons for this, some of which I've touched on above, but also the fact there is no voice acting. The art style isn't anything special and comes across as a little simplistic. The ever-present thug character is major turn-off (including what seems like an attempted rape scene, which I thought was a step too far). Even the main character can seem unlikable, constantly smiling. Somehow, even with these flaws, I still think the game was unique enough to have been worth playing, so I ended up tilting towards the positive for this one. It's more that I think it's far from perfect and needs... something. (minor note: I also had tracking problems too. I played the game over the course of a day, so it should read over 10 hours of play time, but for some reason steam didn't track any of this. I checked my steam achievements, and the time stamps are correct, but even after finishing the game all I had was one card drop. Possibly, this is due to downloading other games when I started playing Enigma.)
Just an amazing read! While the story might feel a bit slow at times with the slice of life moments, these scenes truly help to immerse you in the world of Enigma and make the emotional, sad moments with the characters hit harder.
ENIGMA: is a story-driven visual novel created by Uzumeya and brought to a wider audience by Fruitbat Factory. Released on Steam in 2016, the game positions itself as a mystery adventure built around branching narratives, philosophical themes, and emotional character arcs. Like many titles in the visual novel genre, the primary gameplay consists of reading dialogue and making choices that influence the direction of the story. However, what sets ENIGMA: apart is the way it intertwines its romantic and personal drama with a larger mystery surrounding a mysterious illness and an isolated island community. The story centers on Chester, a man suffering from a deadly disease known as “Enigma.” This illness has begun spreading across the world and appears to be fatal, leaving those infected with little hope of survival. Facing an uncertain future and limited time, Chester embarks on a journey that ultimately leads him to a remote island named Carlyle. The island appears strangely untouched by the global crisis, existing in quiet isolation from the outside world. When Chester arrives there after a mysterious accident, he quickly realizes that the place may hold secrets connected not only to the disease but also to his own past. Soon after arriving on the island, Chester encounters several residents who become central to the narrative. Among them are Colette, a warm and caring young woman who helps nurse him back to health, and her brother Lauro, who is cautious and protective of both his sister and the community. Another important character is Envirio, a mysterious figure whose role in the story varies dramatically depending on the choices the player makes. These characters serve as the emotional anchors of the narrative, and their relationships with Chester evolve in different ways depending on the path the player chooses to follow. The narrative structure of ENIGMA: is heavily built around branching story routes. At key moments throughout the story, the player must make decisions that determine which direction the narrative takes. These choices can influence character relationships, reveal different pieces of information about the island, and ultimately lead to entirely different endings. In total, the game contains numerous endings, each offering a slightly different perspective on the story’s mysteries. Because no single route reveals the entire truth behind the island or the disease, players are encouraged to replay the game and explore multiple paths in order to assemble the complete picture. One of the strengths of the game lies in how it gradually unfolds its mystery. Early chapters focus on establishing the island’s peaceful atmosphere and introducing its residents, but subtle hints suggest that something is not quite right. As the story progresses, new revelations challenge the player’s assumptions about the characters and the nature of the world itself. The disease known as Enigma, the strange isolation of Carlyle Island, and Chester’s own background slowly intertwine into a larger narrative puzzle that becomes clearer only after experiencing several different story routes. The tone of the writing often leans toward introspection. Chester is portrayed as a thoughtful protagonist who is deeply aware of his mortality. His reflections on life, relationships, and the meaning of existence form an important part of the narrative’s emotional core. These moments of quiet contemplation balance the more dramatic revelations of the story and give the characters a sense of depth. Rather than focusing purely on romance or mystery, the narrative explores themes of identity, regret, and the human desire to find purpose even in the face of inevitable loss. Visually, the game follows the traditional style of Japanese visual novels with expressive character portraits and detailed illustrated backgrounds. The artwork captures the tranquil beauty of the island setting, presenting forests, coastlines, and village scenes that create a sense of calm isolation. Character designs are colorful and distinctive, helping each member of the cast stand out during conversations. While the visual presentation is not technologically advanced compared to modern visual novels, the art direction succeeds in establishing a strong sense of atmosphere. Music also plays a significant role in shaping the emotional tone of the experience. The soundtrack features gentle melodies and reflective themes that complement the quieter moments of the story. During more dramatic scenes, the music shifts to darker or more intense compositions that reinforce the sense of tension and mystery. Although the soundtrack remains relatively subtle throughout most of the game, it helps maintain immersion and supports the narrative pacing. Despite its strengths, the game is not without its flaws. The pacing can occasionally feel slow, especially during early sections where the story focuses heavily on dialogue and character introductions. Because multiple routes share certain scenes, players replaying the game to unlock additional endings may encounter repeated segments that feel familiar. Additionally, the interactive elements remain limited to dialogue choices, which may disappoint players expecting more complex gameplay mechanics. However, these limitations are fairly typical for the visual novel genre and do little to diminish the overall storytelling experience. For players who enjoy narrative-focused games, the branching structure and multiple endings provide strong replay value. Each route reveals new layers of the story, encouraging players to return and explore alternative possibilities. Ultimately, ENIGMA: succeeds as a compelling mystery visual novel that blends emotional storytelling with philosophical reflection. Its intriguing premise, memorable characters, and layered narrative make it an engaging experience for players willing to immerse themselves in its slower pace. While it may not offer extensive gameplay systems, its strength lies in its writing and the sense of discovery that comes from unraveling the island’s secrets piece by piece. Rating: 8/10
