About
The battle begins before your position is ready. Pioneers gather timber, provisions and powder while enemy patrols close in. Build farms, depots, gun positions and earthworks on the same ground your companies must defend.
Everything remains on the battlefield. Buildings can be damaged, routes can be cut and unfinished defenses leave real gaps in your line.
Move in column. Deploy into line. Form square before cavalry reaches you. Keep morale and ammunition intact while smoke, terrain and casualties break formations apart.
Artillery needs time and protection. Cavalry punishes an exposed flank. A routed company may be saved, but only if you act before it breaks completely.
The settlement is part of the position. Pioneers continue building and repairing while civilians work, flee from danger and return when the ground is safe.
A wall can save a company. A prepared gun position can control a road. A building placed in the wrong location can obstruct the ground your army needs.
Named regiments carry their survivors, losses and honours into later battles. A veteran company withdrawn today may be the formation that holds the final line. A destroyed unit is gone from that run.
The Commander Book records your orders, casualties and surviving army after every battle.
Each run assigns an enemy marshal with different troops, timing and battlefield habits. Operations change what your army gains, what the enemy loses and how prepared each side will be for the final battle.
