Vibes! Aesthetics! Puzzles! Loved it, very inventive and atmospheric, satisfying and fun. A bit janky to control but I didn't mind that at all. More please!
Nearly great, held back by some serious jank and a frustrating final puzzle. This is a pocket sized Outerwildslike. For most of the game it's very satisfying and makes you feel smart. You discover new things you can do and the world is not large enough to get too frustrating. Until the finale, that is. But if you're not an idiot like me or have more patience, this might be a 5 star for you. You appear in a small island town as Sherlock Holmes but you could be literally anyone and it wouldn't matter. The name comes from an Edgar Allen Poe story which would inspire Lovecraft - and this takes from that, too. But there's also a definite goofiness to it. I like all that. I also like the visuals, which are in a kind of "n64 game that got a PC port" territory, barring a few effects slightly too good for that. Without delving into spoilers, one of the abilities you have involves listening for certain audio cues. Not only does real life get in the way (my fiance and her friend laughing in the other room, for example), but even the game's own audio mix does! Very frequently ambient sounds will trigger when you're trying to listen. In this one specific instance, there is a timer counting down, and it gets faster and louder as you run out of time. It makes performing this simple task difficult in an unfair way, IMO. It's also heavily variable based on your speaker system. My crappy laptop speakers actually made it easier than my better desktop speakers. The puzzle in question is not just timed, but it's the kind of thing where you don't have any clue if it's likely to work until it does. Since it's easy to mess up, it's easy to think you're barking up the wrong tree. This happened to me, where I had the right idea, tried (and failed) to pull it off, thought "no that's too frustrating, they wouldn't require me to do that", and wandered around for 30 minutes trying to figure out what else I could do. Eventually I relented, looked up an LP, and got mad at myself when it turned out I was absolutely on the right track and just messed up the execution a bit. Other technical jank includes not having any kind of menu options other than language, not being able to fullscreen the game (it launches windowed, alt enter does nothing, you can maximize but not go full screen), and one crash I had. The book at the start implies there's a part 2 coming, though I don't know if that's just the developer getting a bit meta considering the source material and it's famously abrubt ending.

Really good game, short but with nice puzzles.
Very good game. Interesting and clever puzzles, spooky atmosphere, retro visuals. I hope author finishes it and it will get the attention it definitely deserves.
Considering the main inspiration of this game is Outer Wilds, one of my favorite games, it's really remarkable how close the creators have made an experience that captures many of the same "aha" moments. The current experience is short (although I took some time with some of the puzzles), but there are a satisfying amount of reveals and an interesting if cryptic narrative running through your interactions. Especially impressive is the way the game both builds mastery but also purposefully avoids actual item or skill checks, much like Outer Wilds. it's difficult to design a mechanic that feels consistently interesting to manipulate, and the core mechanic here is one of the best examples of how to create interesting interactions from simple concepts. I would highly recommend playing it if you are a fan of Outer Wilds or a fan of puzzle games in general, this is one of my new favorites!
It's pretty short, and maybe a little jank by modern standards (i.e. only runs windowed, and uses tank controls), but the puzzle is really good. The English translation seems pretty good and shouldn't cause you any problems. It took me about 80 minutes to get through it, but you might be able to get it faster depending on how quickly you figure some things out. Hopefully we see some more from this developer. The way this is structured seems to indicate that there is more to come later?
Very good little game, following the footsteps of Outer Wilds, as others have mentioned. I find this much better than a surprisingly similar game called "Stars Die". Whereas Stars Die focused more on the cyclical aspect of time, El cas d'Arthur Gordon Pym (henceforth affectionately calling it Pym) focuses on learning mechanics, available from the beginning, that let you access more and more places. It is quite short and, unfortunately, linear. There is a single "next" place to reach at any time, and it alone holds the clue to the next one (mostly). But it is well designed, if a bit... "naked". By which I mean that the clues are often given by drawings on the wall, drawings which have no reason to be there, nor any explanation. It is a bit gamey, hurting immersion, but I can live with it. I never felt really stuck, but neither was it immediately obvious how to proceed, which is a good balance. I've even felt a bit clever when I solved the last puzzle. :) The biggest problem with the game is the janky camera and controls. The camera changes perspective in places, which also changes controls (from WS to move forward and AD to turn as if in first person, to then having a fixed camera with WASD moving the character as if in topdown). The biggest problem with this comes with the fact that one of the mechanics has a timer associated, and requires you to walk through cumbersome paths. This frustrated me a bit, especially when I was still "experimenting", looking for the solution to a puzzle. A second, less impactful problem, is the writing. The english can be a bit awkward (which made an impact near the end of the game), but above all it also misuses terms like "heretic" and "pagan" in connection to some lovecraftian cult. I understand the intent, to make it religious and occult, but the wrong terms works against the game. The characters are also rather simplistic, lacking a fitting voice. Regardless, the core of the game is quite good. The puzzles are well designed, and it is surprising how it manages to produce "eureka" moments in such a small scale. Due to its length, it remains little more than a proof of concept. But it definitely has my attention, and I eagerly look forward to future chapters. A very promising start!
It's really good, quite short (at the time of this review there's only 1 chapter, took me 70mins) but really enjoyable, the kind of games you want to go in knowing nothing, puzzles are interesting and make you feel smart when you figure them out.
I actually loved this game! I finished in 108 minutes. So it's short, but puzzling. I think that's actually quite a bit of content for one chapter. If there are more I would like to play them. I enjoy the retro graphics, the only thing about this game that annoyed me was some of the movement style was a retro fixed camera thing. It's nothing terrible, just a few awkward camera changes.
