Turn-based tactics team builder in ASCII art. Battle monsters in a PvE idle dungeon crawl. Fight other players in live or async Arena matches. Create unique squads of heroes with 8 mix-&-match skill trees & pray to the god of your choice for powerful gear! Dungeon Team is F2P and *never* P2W.

About

Prepare to dive into dark dungeons and face waves of monsters, or test your mettle against other heroes in PvP duels to the death -- all in an art style harkening to the days of ASCII graphics.
Dungeon Team is a f2p turn-based tactics team builder where you create squads of heroes, assembled from 11 different classes. You'll send them to explore the Caverns, lay waste to enemies, and loot treasures & gear in a PvE idle dungeon crawler. When you're ready, you can go against other players in rolling 24-hour async tournaments as well as live, manually controlled Arena matches.
Each of the 3 game mods has as submode for squads of 1, 2, 3, 5, or 7 heroes. Glory, riches and bragging rights await the victors! Level your team of heroes up with 11 different classes and 8 mix-&-match skill trees. You'll equip them with gear dropped by monsters, awarded for PvP tournaments, or granted by the gods. Let's take a deeper look at Dungeon Team's 4 different game modes:
The Arena is the place where your heroes smash, shoot, stun, scare, bleed, poison, scorch, freeze, and shock their opponents into submission. It offers live PvP matches where you have direct control over your team in real-time – a little like a game of blitz chess. You will be rated and ranked on an Elo system to ensure fair matchmaking. And defeating human enemies will get you better loot and more experience!
The Inn is an asynchronous auto-battle multiplayer game mode where you'll send your squads into battles with both parties controlled by AI. Players are organized into 24-hour tournaments where your goal is to gain as many peanuts as possible. Defeating an opponent's defense squad means stealing 10% of their peanut stash, as well as swapping tournament ranks with them (where higher ranks mean more passive peanut gains). If you gain enough peanuts you can rise to the next tournament tier, or maintain your tier. Lose out, however, and you could drop down in tier. Let's have a pint of ale, warm our feet by the fire and enjoy some nice trash talking in the in-game chat while watching our toons duke it out!
The Caverns is an idle dungeon crawler where your teams of heroes explore a procedurally generated dungeon in search of treasure and fame. You’ll fight incrementally tougher enemies the deeper you go. Caverns is perfect for leaving on in the background while you work, study, or play other games. Many players even leave it running overnight and claim their loot and XP in the morning!
This sacred site has just been found, and its secrets are still to be unveiled. Pray and offer sacrifices to earn the blessings of the gods!
... where heroes meet to discuss strategies and builds, lick their wounds, issue challenges and just have a great time together!
Warning: Microtransaction infested mobile-tier game! This game is infested with a toxic mobile app style cash shop. You will be prompted to and expected to give money to the developers through this cash shop to buy in-game goods so you can play the game.
"Dungeon Team" looks exactly like one of thousands of nasty mobile apps infesting the "free" section of Steam, but it's not really free. While I couldn't find this on the app stores, for all intents and purposes this is a mobile app... it has all the same qualities, from the mobile app tier graphics to the shallow gameplay you expect from mobile app cash harvesters. We can't say why this wasn't accepted on the mobile app stores, maybe it's because Google and Apple have QA departments, and Valve has "Steam Direct". There's so many things wrong with this it's hard to know where to start... from some of the worst graphics to insult gamers everywhere to some of the most toxic monetization I've seen in a hot minute here on Steam Direct, this is a train wreck worth taking steps to avoid. Let's break it down. The "game" itself is basically a ripoff of other, much more successful mobile apps like Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms... ignore the fake marketing on this trying to sell it's as a "dungeon crawler", at best this is a lame incrementer/autobattler where... you guessed it, you need to pay cash money to the developers to secure that P2W advantage. Toxic P2W monetization is never, ever okay, and yet here it is. There's only a superficial game here. The game visuals and the game itself are incredibly shallow... think of them as the cheap, bright, colourful plastic cabinet dress theme on a poker machine at the casino. That's basically what this is. So really, the mobile app "game" is just a veneer, a thin skin wrapped around a nasty, predatory mobile app cash shop. Putting that toxic mobile app monetisation aside... this is basically a mobile app on the wrong platform. I didn't spend thousands on a gaming PC so I could pretend it's an iPhone, and I don't think you did either... this kind of mobile app has no place in your Steam library. A quick note about the graphics, too, it's supposed to look like an "ASCII" game but it doesn't actually use ASCII characters for the visuals, it's just super, incredibly lazy 2D visuals (that might be AI slop for all I know) that vaguely resemble an ASCII art image if it got burned into a 14" CRT which was then hit very hard with a sledgehammer and viewed while drunk from a cheap telescope from Temu. And the result is one of the ugliest games on Steam. This is a massive achievement. While I couldn't find this on the mobile app stores, everything about it looks and feels like it's a mobile app designed for mobile phones... for PC gaming enthusiasts, it's not going to give you a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That alone is enough to disqualify this from any recommendation. We don't spend thousands building gaming rigs so that we can pretend they're iPhones and play iPhone games and mobile apps. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This game is infested with mobile app store like microtransactions. This is a consumer hostile model that we don't need to see on PC. It's deceptively priced to gouge gamers, and that's a reason in itself to avoid this. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's well over 130 million gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at less than 100 concurrent players, they couldn't even break three figures, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Not on a bet. This might be "free", but I still feel like I got ripped off.

Didn't click for me. Progress is slow and confusing. UI is confusing and not well optimized for leaving open. Art was charming and skill trees were interesting, but you'd be better off with another game :)
It didnt suck! so i kept playing. Now I have a party of 7 lvl 49 KILLERS!
The developer is openly using AI to vibecode the game. ♥♥♥♥ AI.
Maybe I didn't click the correct buttons in the interface, but I couldn't find any way to play this in fullscreen and to increase the speed of the auto battle fights. Every fight takes what feels like ages.
Now this is genius. It's as fun as it is simple, yet a lot of stuff to be done. Giving me champions of krynn vibes :)
The game is pretty good but it got old after a couple hundred hours...I felt like I was wasting my time in the end...i wasn't finding upgrades anymore....I'm not really into PVP so that part of the game didn't do anything for me...i made it to the final tier in the Inn, that was good enough for me....It's a niche game and the community is very small, but friendly and helpful.
