About
Drone Sector fuses the gunship close air support role with the drone's observation and mission command. Inspired by the real-life AC-130 gunship and MQ-9 Reaper drone, it merges these powerful roles in a futuristic setting, where advanced technology and heavier firepower enable you to take on more complex and dangerous missions. While not a pure military simulator, the focus remains on tactical planning and execution, with greater flexibility in mission design and weaponry.
Guide your squads as they advance through hostile environments to achieve mission objectives. Command with precision, helping them avoid traps and eliminating high-priority threats with your overwhelming firepower. Outnumbered by enemy forces, you’ll need to maximize your technological superiority to turn the tide.
During each mission, you’ll need to make strategic decisions about resource gathering. Send your ground squads into buildings or key areas to collect vital resources and research documents—but this comes with risk. Stay too long, and you may lose your squad to overwhelming enemy forces. Decide when to extract and when to push your luck for valuable rewards.
Between missions back at base, upgrade your gunship, squads, and weapons. Manage your ammo production and research new technologies to improve your chances in the field.
Fluid, responsive gunship weapon controls
Multiple camera modes: color, night vision and thermal vision
Commanding self-sufficient squads on the ground
A variety of infantry and armored unit types
Resource collection and ammunition management
Weapon research and manufacturing
Squad building and upgrades
Handcrafted levels with randomized missions

First off I selected No because at the current state I do not really think the game is worth it. I'll edit the review if things improve. So I'll go ahead and throw the worst of it out there. This game feels like a 1990's AC-130 game. Like I would put it in the up against of U.S. Navy Fighters '97 by Janes. For a game where your entire gameplay is looking through a targeting pod watching things blow up is the whole point, at least in my opinion. Maybe I'm the only one who wants to see half of a wall get blown off of a building after I hit it with a 120mm HE round, and if you don't care about the physics and effects of what you're shooting then this game might be for you. I expected to see destructible terrain or at least enemies. Infantry units you shoot just disappear, no bodies, no body parts flying just poof. Vehicles sort of explode... but not in any visually captivating way. Janes Longbow Simulator actually had better vehicle destruction mechanics, yes I'm talking about the 1996 video game for PC. Structures "buildings" do not blow up. You can't even shoot down walls or barricades to help your ground units maneuver. So if you shoot a 120mm HE round into the side of a building you get a nice little camp fire on the top to show it's "destroyed". The voice lines are annoying for anyone who has any experience with gunship operations. You'll hear splash and they will tell you what type of round you are firing as it leaves the plane, which as the gunner I would hope you know what ordinance your shooting before you send it. None of the voice lines are actually helpful and over time just get annoying. The guy on comms doesn't even announce a anti-air threat or new group of enemies which would make since especially since the loading and firing is all automated seeing as it's a drone. The idea is great, and the foundation is kind of there but for me if the things I'm blowing up don't actually blow up it just gets boring. Not to mention there really aren't any "captivating" missions so it really becomes repetitive in a way. The rescue missions don't really feel any different than the industrial raid. Anyway those are my thoughts. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

This game is sick, anyone that is saying "you run out of fuel before you can finish" Or "it takes to long for the infantry to run" Don't understand the mechanics of the game. Fly higher, use less fuel, lead the targets further. Fly lower to the ground, user more fuel, easier to hit targets. Air is thinner the higher you fly, less wind resistance = better fuel. The fact that they can't figure this out by the literally fuel timer increasing as you fly higher baffles me. You have more than enough fuel to finish the mission. As for infantry walking to slow......speed up time, its a literal mechanic of the game. I recommend binding it to space and slow to alt, I use the speed up alot and tab to switch between gun and units, this makes me alt tab out of the game lol. Bind it to space if you want to do both. 10/10 game for early access, super fun and extremely satisfying it gets insaaaaane toward the end. Super hard which is dope. 300 fps steady, no hitching, no bugs. The AI is a little wonky but what ai isn't in a early access game, re route them and they are fine. 10/10
Right now, while it's a fun game, it's held back by some incredibly frustratingly poor pathfinding for AI units, and a resource economy that leaves you at the whims of the random mission lineup. There's a resource that only replenishes after a mission, so you're encouraged to spend resources as much as possible to make use of it. Problem here? There's one resource that I haven't gotten any missions for in over 4 rotations, leaving me unable to craft anything. The pathfinding is the biggest issue as its locked up entire missions from units getting stuck, driving into walls, failing to drive down a straight road, or crashing into each other, but the game really needs some economical alternative to random assorted missions.
your experience will be even better if you imagine the enemy units as people who post "i want to like this game" on steam reviews
I want to like this game, but this really pissed me off more than it should on just the first mission alone. The enemy armored vehicles will drive into the middle of your riflemen squad after they pop smoke, and just execute them all, leaving you with the choice of watching them all die, or killing both your riflemen and the armored vehicle. But that's okay, maybe I just suck and I need to bring the AT squad instead to counter the one sneaky armored vehicle. Shock and horror, as I watch 2x AT squads, shoot at, and repeatedly miss the armored vehicle, it pins them down, they pop smoke and it parks inside the AT squad and mows them down. Sure they aren't elite spec-ops maybe, but surely 4 guys with AT weapons should be able to hit 1 armored vehicle?? Refunded.
Right now the game is pure dumb sandbox fun more than anything and will need quite some elbow grease and time in the oven to be truly great, that said I am not offended by the price because the potential is there and it is quite fun at the end of the day! If you liked the AC-130 from COD or the Gunship from Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, this scratches that itch you didn't know you had.
Very promising for what it is, but still a narrow band of its full potential. The best way to describe the current state of early access is that the game is very good at what it is, but only is 20% of what it should be. Currently it's doing exactly one kind of mission/playstyle: you get a few small squads or vehicles deep into enemy territory, cover them while they hit up a location, and then help them evac. No defenses, no huge assaults, no ambushing convoys, yada yada. Enemies are pre-spawned on the map, and then will start trickling in reinforcements after like a 7-12 min timer. But what's already there is incredibly promising - the weapons feel genuinely different, it's absurdly satisfying to spray 30mm down a long street and watch multiple vehicles go up in flames, or saturate an urban area with airburst shells and watch infantry pop. Plant AT minefields using glide bombs at a bridge, order your 40mm IFVs to circle around a town before going in as they cover every guy who pops out in 40mm frag shells. This is the sort of game that's in a very specific place - I would absolutely recommend picking it up to support development - the developer responds very quickly and is actively trying to improve stuff, has been super receptive to suggestions from people - but probably just play a few hours to get a sense for how promising it is and then wait for more content. I think it's fun where it is, but the game is brimming with potential far more than it has already realized any of it.
In ten minutes this game instantly got added to my favorites. Absolutely love it! The UI needs work and I think a proper story would be nice. Otherwise it's insanely satisfying to play, gameplay is 10/10 no notes!
This is a hard game to recommend. I really wish there was a neutral review option. The game itself is good. It works well on a technical level. It looks good, it handles well, it runs well. The only thing that breaks from time to time is unit pathfinding, where the ground vehicles you order around will get stuck on trees or on buildings. That could use some work. The primary issue is that the core gameplay gets old fast. Shooting giant blobs of infantry with a cannon from a thousand meters up above is fun, but you can only do it so many times before it grows stale and repetitive. When there's 200-300 infantrymen you need to kill every ten-minute mission, you kind of stop caring about each individual bean. Another glaring problem is a massive lack of content. After four hours of gameplay, I feel like I've seen everything the game has to offer twice over. As of writing, there are essentially only three enemy type distinctions that matter. There's infantry, which you shoot with HE. There's vehicles which you shoot with AP. Then there's anti-air vehicles, the only enemy type that can actually hurt you, which can be damaged with both HE and AP. It doesn't matter at all if the thing you're shooting at is an APC with a .50 calibre machinegun, or an APC with a 90mm cannon. Both die all the same to a single squirt of the 30mm gatling gun that you start out with. There is very little reason to research any of the weapons other than the ones you start with. There is no enemy type you can not destroy with ease given the starting weapons alone. This makes a lot of the "content" in the game obsolete. I have tried the other weapons available to me out of pure curiosity, and while they differ slightly from the stuff you start with in some areas, they are functionally the exact same thing. Whether you shoot a 120mm HE round or a 70mm HE rocket, there is very little difference between the two. They both do just about the same thing. This leads to a situation where your weapons all feel kind of similar, with the only distinction being AP versus HE; while at the same time all of the enemy types feel kind of the same with the only distinction being whether you need AP or HE to defeat them. So, every mission devolves to selecting one of two weapon types to defeat one of two enemy types, while your own units sluggishly crawl across the map to reach the objectives. I wish I could like this game more, I really do. I enjoy the concept greatly, and it's well-made on a technical level. Alas, there just isn't enough meat on the bones for me to dump more than four hours into it. Maybe if it gets updated to have meaningfully different enemy types and meaningfully different weapons, I'll give it another go. I enjoyed the time I spent on the game, which is why it gets a positive review, but there isn't enough game for me to enjoy -- especially at the current price point.
