Actual scam, released at full price 2 years before the definitive edition then we still had to buy the definitive edition at full price. They should've just never released this, they just baited people into buying a lesser version of a product they would immediately replace with a better one you have to buy again for full price.

Play the definitive version
great game, much better now on a larger display. this version does not have JP language/voice acting unfortunately. also appears this ver is no longer for sale
Doesn't stray too far from the classic formula, but you come to Dragon Quest because you want the classic formula.
i definitely enjoyed this game, it basically got better and better as i played it until you get to the last act in the game which just feels like filler and nothing else.
7/10. Not a bad game, but definitely a bland one. Between the 2 dimensional characters and a main story line that I feel like I've played dozen times before(the broad strokes are almost exactly the same as Breath of Fire and probably a few other JRPGs). Not a great entry in the DQ series, but it looks good and is engaging and funny at times. I really liked the village of people who all talk in haiku lol. The mid-post game grind is super rough, but you can farm metal slime to make it a little easier as with any DQ game. I also really liked the combat and class builds. I had a lot of fun working out good team builds. All in all though would not recommend unless you love JRPGS and don't mind a rehashed story.
