The gamepad support is terrible—they're extremely uncomfortable and not implemented properly. You need third-party software to map the gamepads in the game.

The controls on Steam Deck are terrible. I imagine it's not much different with a controller. For some reason, right-trigger is your secondary attack with a long cooldown, and left trigger is your primary attack. And yet, right trigger is what clicks buttons! It makes no sense! I want to swap the buttons so it feels more natural with other shooter games I playe, but then the input for clicking buttons becomes left trigger. I just can't get used to that. I tried to change the controls in the settings, but it just locked up! I couldn't actually push any buttons. All I could do was click Back to get out of the controls menu, but every time I reopened the controls settings, it was back to waiting for input on the one thing I clicked. What a dumb bug to encounter in the first two minutes of playing the game. I thought maybe I would set the trigger buttons on my Steam Deck to be mouse clicks so that maybe they would make more sense, but then every time you pull a trigger button, it changes the whole game to mouse/keyboard mode. And then any button press changes it back to controller mode. Meanwhile, it flashes the two different UIs constantly. The same thing happens if you try to put the right trackpad into mouse mode rather than being a right joystick. One of the best parts about the Steam Deck (or Steam Controller) is that it has these track pads that can be a mouse, and they feel very natural and have trackball-like flick panning. But every time you touch it, it changes all the controls to mouse/kb mode again. Instead, you're stuck with a right joystick to move the cursor around the screen and to drag things, and it just feels so unnatural. It forces you to click and drag every power up you get. It's like controller support was just an afterthought, and it's just not made for controllers at all. I don't know how this is Steam Deck verified.

It's fast and fun. I didn't 100% it or beat any of the challenge modes (I don't normally do challenge modes but I tried a few). I did a few runs going for more than one loop, though the amount of projectiles/enemies on screen led to a lot of lag and screen artifacting so I never went for a 3rd loop. Overall quite a fun game and I liked the story. (I got this game while it was free for a week in 2025)
