Pretty fun. Like Keep Digging but a bit more polished and with no time limit.
DIG Raiders: Anomaly Extraction turns an alien disaster into an unusually cheerful business opportunity. Developed by Soda Game Studio and published by Soda Game Studio and Infini Fun, it blends underground exploration, mining, extraction, cooperative action, progression, and light management into one deliberately eccentric package. Instead of treating a crashed alien spacecraft as something humanity should fear, the game asks what would happen if an ambitious entrepreneur purchased the land above it, accumulated a mountain of debt, and started digging for anything valuable enough to pay the bills. That ridiculous setup establishes the playful tone immediately and gives the adventure an identity beyond being another mining or extraction game. Most of the action takes place beneath the city across nine underground layers. Players descend with mining equipment and explosives, breaking through terrain while searching for resources, treasures, alien creatures, and other valuable discoveries. Exploration feels closely connected to progression because digging deeper gradually exposes new opportunities and dangers. Physics also contributes to the unpredictable nature of expeditions, particularly when explosives and multiple players become involved. The result is a gameplay loop that encourages curiosity while maintaining the constant objective of finding something valuable and getting it back safely. The adventure can be played solo, but cooperative support for up to four players appears especially suited to its chaotic design. A group can explore, mine, complete unusual missions, gather loot, and deal with alien encounters together. The humor prevents the extraterrestrial setting from becoming overly serious, with strange objectives and absurd situations appearing to be part of the intended experience. Rather than presenting aliens exclusively as enemies, players can capture them and put them to work, fitting perfectly with the game's tongue-in-cheek approach to interplanetary capitalism. Progression provides additional motivation beyond simply reaching the bottom. Valuable discoveries can contribute toward better equipment and new playable characters, while seven animal suits provide both visual variety and practical benefits. These costumes can influence attributes such as movement speed, health, and damage, giving players a reason to consider which outfit best complements their preferred approach. It is a straightforward system, but it adds another layer of preparation before heading underground. The surface management elements make the overall progression more interesting. Resources recovered during expeditions can become part of an industrial operation, while captured aliens can serve as workers. Production can eventually be automated, transforming the player's growing operation into something resembling a small extraterrestrial-powered business empire. An Entertainment Street can also be developed as wealth increases. These mechanics give successful expeditions consequences beyond simply watching currency numbers rise. Exploration provides resources, resources support industry, and industry helps expand the operation. For players who want competition instead of cooperation, the 4v4 Treasure Hunt mode introduces direct conflict between teams. Searching for valuable objects becomes more stressful when another group is attempting to secure the same rewards. The extraction element becomes particularly important here because discovering treasure does not necessarily guarantee ownership of it. Players still need to escape successfully. This competitive option gives the game's mining and extraction mechanics another purpose without replacing the more relaxed cooperative adventure at its center. Visually and conceptually, the game favors colorful absurdity over realistic science fiction. Animal costumes, underground mining, alien workers, explosives, automated factories, treasure hunting, and commercial development sound like unrelated concepts on paper, yet the intentionally ridiculous premise allows them to coexist naturally. The game also includes Steam achievements, online cooperative play, online PvP, Steam Cloud support, and Family Sharing. Its relatively modest storage requirement is another advantage for players who do not want a huge installation for a multiplayer game. The main concern is that DIG Raiders attempts to cover many different genres simultaneously. Mining, extraction, combat, physics, cooperative missions, competitive multiplayer, automation, character progression, resource management, and construction all compete for attention. Players expecting the complexity of a dedicated factory simulator or the intensity of a hardcore extraction shooter may find these individual systems lighter than anticipated. Its appeal instead comes from combining accessible versions of those ideas into a single humorous experience. Steam Deck compatibility is currently best regarded as unverified rather than officially confirmed. There is no established Steam Deck compatibility rating to guarantee a fully optimized handheld experience, so players interested primarily in Deck play should expect that controls, interface readability, performance, or multiplayer-related functionality may require additional consideration. Overall, DIG Raiders: Anomaly Extraction stands out through the unusual way it connects digging, extraction, cooperative chaos, alien exploitation, and business expansion. Its strongest quality is not necessarily the depth of any single mechanic but the entertaining progression created when all of them interact. Going underground provides immediate adventure, while upgrading equipment, developing facilities, automating production, unlocking characters, and expanding the operation create longer-term objectives. For players who enjoy cooperative sandbox experiences with plenty of humor and experimentation, this strange underground enterprise has considerable potential. Rating: 8/10
