Descenders Next

really loved this game as well as the og descenders. Only major issues i've come across is after one major update all of my medal for the parks were reset. IDK if this was a wipe the devs did on purpose (haven't been to caught up with what they're doing) but i still have all of my steam achievements that you get from clearing the parks. If anyone knows why this happened or a fix please lmk.

This game is really fun, great for chilled gaming sessions but complex enough that you can get a lot out of it. I'm not the biggest fan of board sports, but because I loved the original Descenders so much, I thought I'd give this a try. I have been very impressed so far. Considering this is still early access, it's a LOT of game for the money and it's also surprisingly polished. The game looks great, runs well and the UI design is pretty good. It's not perfect, but from experiencing RageSquids commitment to their games with D1, I am certain this game is going to get even better for a long time to come. To make you like it even more- there are no microtransactions! If you get this game on sale, it actually feels like theft.

Don't let the aesthetic or presentation fool you. This is not a sports game. If you want a snowboarding sim then check out Shredders or something, even though it's not as fun as Descenders Next. Yes, this has some nods to enthusiasts of the sport with the cosmetic brands and stuff, but that's about as far as it goes. This is not a sports game. This is a downhill survival game that just happens to be using boards as the vehicle. Kinda like the first Descenders is a downhill survival game that just happens to be using bicycles. What is a downhill survival game? Make it to the bottom without dying. Simple, but incredibly intense and fun in the same way that horror games are. Graphics are good enough, can look pretty if you crank it up but if you got a mid-low rig this game will accommodate. Music is basically just drum and bass, not bad, I prefer turning it down and using my own playlists. Co-op is great, especially when playing in custom sessions, but progression like unlocking tracks for World Tour has to be done outside of custom sessions. Lots of customization to unlock. Great tracks and biomes. Tricks are fun and require real skill. Hell, a lot of this game is skill-based. Riding physics are good enough, not super realistic but way more fun than say Shredders or STEEP. Good ol' fashioned fun. No open world, no fancy tech or crazy scope, but this game doesn't need it. It's a game designed for fun and it's fun to play, especially with friends. It also keeps getting solid updates that only makes the game better and better.

I can feel how hard the devs worked to make Next feel the way that it is. This game had some rough bugs for a while after it launched, I couldn't even finish a run without my characters model breaking or the UI leaving me frozen from progression mid run. My primary way of playing was in a lobby with my friends, and every time we tried, the game would break at spring blossoms. I tried again recently, now that the ring of fire update has come out, and its feels like the bugs have been squashed and I can actually appreciate this game for what it is now. I have hundreds of hours in the OG Descenders and have been popping back in to Next from time to time to see if its actually playable yet, and I have to say, its finally time to get shredding.

Ich war sehr skeptisch, da mir Descenders sehr gut gefällt (650 Stunden +) und ich mir eigentlich wieder Bikes gewunschen hätte, wurde aber positiv von Next überrascht. Die Devs sind sehr bemüht und es findet ein guter Austausch mit ihnen auf reddit statt! Klare Empfehlung! I was very skeptical at first, since I really love Descenders (650 hours +) and I was actually hoping for bikes again, but I was pleasantly surprised by Next. The developers are really dedicated, and there’s a great community discussion with them on Reddit! Highly recommended!
