Database Detective: Minor Crimes Division

this game has a concept so interesting that upon seeing it for the first time i sent a screenshot of the description to three discord servers, and then immediately bought the game and played it for 5 to 6 hours straight. sql may be arcane and frustrating (this is IBM's fault not the developer's eheee) but the game managed to keep me engaged through it regardless. its a Goode Game and i Enjoyed it

Good environment that teaches and scales up difficulty while engaging experienced SQL users with puzzle solving.

Cool little puzzle game and nice way to brush up on SQL at the same time! I was impressed with the production quality - the voice overs, artwork and the in-game plot/lore is great. Definitely worth a look!

Legit fun and actually funny. Great way to learn or brush up on SQL skills, also uses non-SQL type deduction and classic puzzle solving gameplay elements, fun all round really. Starts off easy enough but ramps up in difficulty with each mission. Would love more missions that ease more SQL concepts in a bit more, but what's on offer is well worth the asking price. Love my authoritarian overlord Zoran.

I was very impressed by this game. I thought you'd get a database and you'd need to figure out the SQL statement to run on it to solve the puzzle, but that only happens in the first few levels to teach the basics of SQL. After that, you won't be given any databases when you start a case. Instead, you'll need to search in-game websites for databases you can download. Each of them will only contain some of the information you'll need to solve the case. A database of weather records, one of sports game results, and another of airport flight records. Somehow these contain the information you need to track a suspect. You don't just need to figure out what query to write, you need to figure out what data you want to retrieve in the first place. Extremely well done SQL puzzle game. I've played a lot of good programming games (ie Zachtronics) and a lot of good investigation deduction games (ie The Root Trees are Dead), and this somehow manages to combine both genres very well to make an interesting puzzle game that also actually teaches you SQL, along with some good satire, humor, and a good PC OS aesthetic. The SQL querying and the investigating go very well together. You aren't just getting "write X SQL query to find X Data" prompts, you actually have to investigate through websites and clues to figure out what you're looking for, but then use SQL to parse out the data you need, followed by more investigating using that clue to get to the next data you need to parse, etc until you find the culprit.
