I first discovered Danganronpa through the anime, Danganronpa: The Animation. I watched the whole thing and got really interested in the series, so I decided to play the game myself.
I actually played Danganronpa 1 on mobile first, and playing it after watching the anime was a really different experience. In the anime, I'm mostly just watching the story happen, but in the game, I'm the one investigating, looking for clues, and finding contradictions during the Class Trials. Even though I already knew some of what was going to happen, it was still really fun actually being the one solving the cases.
I also enjoyed the game more because the anime mostly focuses on the main story, while the game gives you more time with the characters and has little moments that aren't really in the anime. Those extra interactions made me appreciate the characters more.
The mystery and investigations were really fun, but the Class Trials were definitely my favorite part. Trying to figure out who was lying, finding contradictions, and putting everything together was something I really enjoyed. I wasn't always able to figure everything out before the game revealed it, but that's what made it exciting.
I also really liked the characters. Some were funny, some surprised me, and some I ended up getting really attached to. I liked how the story could be funny and weird one moment, then suddenly become serious and emotional.
The twists kept me wanting to see what would happen next, and by the end I was completely hooked on Danganronpa.
I enjoyed it so much that I bought it again on Steam to support the game, and I had just as much fun playing it on PC.
The anime is what got me into Danganronpa, but playing the game made me appreciate the series even more. Definitely recommend it if you like mystery games, detective stuff.
