This is a charming little automation game. I loved the art style and experimenting with different setups to create all the materials. The description texts for each machine were a cool touch. Overall a nice experience

A short, sweet, simple automation game. A perfect entry point for those new to the automation genre - the ratios are simple (1:1 or 2:1), it has "function"-like structures (Infiniboxes), and the slowly growing tech tree keeps giving you something new to do right up until the end. For more experienced automation players (*cough* Factorio fans *cough*) this game serves as a quaint sandbox to invent your own challenges. It's so short and the map grows in an interesting enough way to make it a decent speedrun game, and the limited total map space + inifiniboxes can provide an interesting personal "max resources / second" challenge. For the asking price, I can't complain - It was a fun way to kill a few hours.
I played through it twice
Crystal: Automaton is a free to play automation game where you build production lines and try to make the most out of a very limited amount of space. You slowly unlock new areas, machines and resources while learning more about the world and the ancient civilization behind it. The biggest strength of Crystal: Automaton is the factory building. You have to think carefully about where you place everything because space is limited. This makes even simple production lines feel like a puzzle, as you need to find a way to fit everything together while keeping your factory working properly. The InfiniBox system is another interesting idea. It gives you a way to deal with the limited space and lets you build more inside certain areas. It is a clever mechanic that adds another layer to the factory building without making the game overly complicated. The game is also quite relaxing. There are no enemies or constant pressure, so you can take your time and focus on making your production lines better. This makes it a nice choice if you enjoy automation games but do not want something as stressful as some larger factory games. I also like that there is some lore to discover. The game is not just about building machines and collecting resources. Exploring the world and finding out what happened to the ancient civilization gives you another reason to keep progressing. The simple pixel art style fits the game well. It keeps everything easy to understand and gives the game a nice old school look without taking attention away from the factory building. The biggest problem is that Crystal: Automaton is quite short. If you enjoy larger automation games with huge factories and hundreds of machines, you may finish this one fairly quickly. The limited space is part of the challenge, but it also means the game does not have the same scale as games like Factorio. The game is also fairly simple compared to some other automation games. The recipes and production systems are not overly complicated, which is good for beginners but may leave experienced players wanting more. Overall, Crystal: Automaton is a relaxing little automation game with a clever space management system and some interesting lore. It does not try to be a massive factory simulator, and that works in its favour. It is easy to understand, fun to experiment with and does not take itself too seriously. Rating: 6.8/10

Short but fun
