Copy Editor: A RegEx Puzzle

level 6 sucks. Its too annoying. you don't need to do that. That is not what I expected. I don't want to press every key to find solution. I DONT want to write a mapping table for it. you ruined my free time.

I wanted to like this game but I just cannot recommend it. Rather than focus on the regular expression puzzle aspect, it makes that kind of hard and chooses other "puzzles" like the ceaser cipher level. That is the stupidest idea, frustrating, has nothing to do with regex what-so-ever. Why in gods name would you make the titular aspect of your game the most painful? You realize there are actual regex preview programs out there right? Great idea, horrible execution

I had come across regex at work so a few basics I already know. I hoped this game deepens understanding in some of the functions to get more routine using the expressions. Of course you can try real training, web if full of them but hey, it's a game. And the story line makes it really funny. I think I'm already more familiar with it after some rounds of play - and of course with many more question marks than before - but slowly I think I'm getting better in using it. This game gives you a start. And naturally - the more you need to make use of regex, the more you go into details beyond the scope of this game. For the start - it's fine and regex101 website is a must earlier or later. But less funny.

Middling UX and "fun" meta mechanics soured what I hoped would be a gamified method to pick up regex basics. Will just google for a web based alternative some other time, I suppose.

As someone who was looking to improve my regex skills, this puzzle game fell way below my expectations in both implementation and presentation. As some other reviewers have mentioned, to make a long story short, the puzzles are clunky and awkward. I don't recommend this game (specially if you are just getting started with regex), and I wish I could get my money back. If you want to learn regular expressions, just look for free tutorials on the Internet, some of which are interactive.
