Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Jul 21 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
Civil War: Battle of Petersburg is a turn-based tactical wargame focused on the fighting around Richmond and Petersburg during the final year of the American Civil War.
Originally released in 2017, the game has been extensively rebuilt and expanded for modern systems while preserving the fast and accessible hex-based warfare of the original.
Command infantry, cavalry, artillery and generals across a detailed historical battlefield. Use terrain, positioning, concentrated fire and flanking attacks to break the enemy line.
The rules are easy to understand, but every battlefield presents a different tactical problem.
The base game includes the four original historical scenarios:
Battle of the Crater
Bermuda Hundred
New Market Heights
Cold Harbor / Richmond
Each battle features historically inspired formations, terrain and objectives built around the historical Petersburg battlefield map.
Play them individually and master each engagement across multiple difficulty levels.
Every formation has a limited number of movement and combat actions each turn.
Success depends on how you use them.
Maneuver infantry through favorable terrain
Position artillery to dominate important approaches
Use cavalry to threaten exposed flanks
Protect your general
Exploit weakened enemy formations
Attack from behind for a +40% flanking bonus
Decide when to advance and when to preserve your forces
Battles are designed to move quickly without sacrificing tactical depth.
Switch instantly between two complementary battlefield views.
Experience the battlefield from the distinctive tabletop perspective of the original game, with upright formations and a cinematic view across the historical map.
Move to a clearer command-oriented battlefield view designed for quickly reading formations, terrain and objectives.
Change views at any time during battle.
Compared to the original 2017 release, the battlefield AI has been substantially improved to provide a more challenging, believable and tactically varied opponent.
Enemy forces now make much better use of:
Battlefield objectives
Defensive terrain
Artillery positioning
Flanking opportunities
Local counterattacks
Reserve formations
Vulnerable or isolated units
Withdrawal and defensive situations
Rather than simply advancing toward the nearest target, the AI evaluates the developing battle and reacts to threats, opportunities and changing objectives.
Higher difficulty levels increase the challenge further through stronger positioning, more aggressive tactical decisions and more demanding battlefield situations.
The result is a far more capable and responsive opponent, while preserving the fast turn-based flow of the original game.
Battle another player locally or across a network.

Whether you want a quick historical battle, a demanding tactical challenge, a long match against another commander or a scenario of your own creation, the same battlefield system supports them all.
Two optional Grand Campaign expansions add 15 missions each, persistent armies, headquarters management, historical formations, equipment, supplies and new battle objectives.
Lead Grant's armies through the expanding siege, cut the Confederate supply routes and carry the campaign through to the final breakthrough at Petersburg.
Defend Richmond and Petersburg, raid Union supply lines, preserve increasingly scarce forces and fight through the final Confederate withdrawal.
Both Grand Campaign DLCs also unlock their official historical scenarios for individual Single Battle play.
Take command. Read the battlefield. Break the enemy line.

Civil War: Battle of Petersburg is a compact, straightforward turn-based strategy experience that presents a slice of American Civil War history through a minimalist lens. Developed and published by Cult Software, the game focuses on delivering accessible, small-scale battles set across a handful of historically inspired engagements. Rather than aiming for the sweeping depth or intricate unit modeling found in major wargaming franchises, it commits to a more simplified, almost tabletop-like format where you command infantry, cavalry, artillery, and a general across a series of hex-based maps. This streamlined design means that within minutes of starting, you are already maneuvering your units and planning firing lines, giving the game an approachable feel even for players unfamiliar with the era. The structure of each scenario is straightforward: you take command of either Union or Confederate forces and attempt to secure victory across battlefields representing events such as the Battle of the Crater, Cold Harbor, and other engagements surrounding Petersburg. The maps are simplified interpretations of these historic areas, but they still convey enough terrain variety to encourage basic tactical thinking. Hills, fortifications, rivers, and open fields demand attention when arranging your forces. While the game’s mechanics are easy to grasp — move, attack, reposition, end turn — that simplicity isn’t without merit. It creates a rhythm reminiscent of a light board game, where each move feels deliberate and where the outcome of small decisions can shift momentum quickly. One of the more enjoyable aspects of the game is the immediacy of its combat. Turns resolve quickly, volleys of fire have clear results, and units take damage in a predictable manner. Because the scale is small, positioning becomes central to your strategy: lining up infantry behind artillery, timing cavalry charges, and supporting weak flanks can be the difference between victory and collapse. When a plan comes together — when your artillery softens an enemy line and your infantry advances with minimal casualties — the game generates a surprising sense of tactical satisfaction. These moments highlight how even a minimal war game can deliver tension when the rules are clean and consistent. However, that simplicity also exposes the game’s limitations. The visuals, though serviceable, make it difficult at times to distinguish between unit types. Generals can blend in with infantry, and cavalry or artillery occasionally require a second look before you’re certain what you're moving. This lack of clarity slows down play and can lead to unintentional missteps. Terrain effects, while present, are not always visually intuitive, so understanding how a forest tile or a hill actually impacts a unit may require trial-and-error. The user interface is similarly minimalistic — functional but unrefined — and some actions feel slightly sluggish or imprecise. Movement icons and pathing indicators could stand to be clearer, especially for newcomers. Content, too, is limited. With only a small number of scenarios included, the game doesn’t have the longevity of deeper strategy titles. Once you have completed the available battles once or twice, the novelty begins to wear thin. There are no extended campaigns, no dynamic battles, and no additional mechanics such as morale systems or resource management that might enhance replayability. While you can experiment with different tactical approaches on repeat playthroughs, the underlying experience remains largely unchanged. Players who are used to more elaborate Civil War simulations may find the depth insufficient, while those looking for only a brief diversion will appreciate its quick-play nature. Despite these shortcomings, Civil War: Battle of Petersburg succeeds in offering a budget-friendly, low-friction strategy title that knows its boundaries. It does not pretend to compete with large-scale wargames or historically exhaustive simulations. Instead, it offers a compact recreation of battlefield problem-solving, wrapped in a simple presentation that emphasizes ease of entry. It is the sort of game that can be picked up for short, satisfying sessions — a tactical snack rather than a full meal. In the end, the game’s appeal is tied to expectations. If you seek depth, varied units, complex systems, or historically rich campaigns, this title will likely feel too slight. But if you want a no-nonsense, approachable Civil War strategy game that captures the basic pleasures of maneuvering troops on a hex map and outthinking an opponent with tight positioning and timing, Civil War: Battle of Petersburg offers a small but enjoyable experience. It’s not an epic simulation, but it delivers enough tactical engagement to make its brief battles worth exploring, especially for players who appreciate lightweight wargames and historical settings presented with restraint rather than complexity.
