$45 for expansion packs for a game that feels incomplete compared to CS1 is craaaaaaazy work.
Pedestrians still cross without crosswalks, traffic cuts over at the last second causing chaos, TAA can't be turned off so cars leave streaks across the screen..... better not fix it! Release DLC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My PC is no slouch and yet it performs REALLY badly. Intel I7 14700k, 64gb DDR5, RTX 5070Ti and I can get it at an average 38fps. I wonder if Nasa's super computers can get it to 60? Poor performance is stopping me being able to play/enjoy/immerse myself in this game.
This is still not a finished game and without using mods, it really falls short. I am struggling to come back to this game to play it. I had no problem doing that in CS1. The fact that basic things that were in CS1 are not in this game is disappointing. You cannot build fences, or add water to create ponds/lakes. There is a huge lack of diversity in buildings. I personally find it odd that the developers are selling content creator packs when the base game needs so much more work. Can they not make packs and assets on their own? A bit odd too that the developers are making a LEGO CS when this game still needs polishing. That just shows they care more about money than quality. The ONLY reason I bought this game was because it was on sale, and even sale, I'm having a hard time justifying the cost.
I have seen youtubers play this game and I fell in love with it, but playing it myself, its so hard to run it is unplayable even on lowest graphics.
After 680 hours in Cities: Skylines II—and well over 1,400 hours in the original across PC and Xbox—I am writing a Steam review for the very first time because of how deeply disappointed I am. I paid for the premium edition with high expectations for a true sequel to one of my favorite games. Instead, what I received isn't a management simulator; it's a city painter. The mechanics that should drive the gameplay are completely hollow. Money is inconsequential. Making your citizens happy means nothing. There are no real stakes, no challenge, and ultimately, no actual "game" here. If I had to rank them, Cities: Skylines I in its current state is still significantly better than Cities: Skylines II. This sequel took a massive step backwards, completely abandoning the depth of the original. To make matters worse, they are now pushing a $60 expansion pass for a product that still lacks core gameplay. Looking at their recent Q&As, they aren't even talking about fixing the simulation to make it a real game—they are just focusing on more "painter" features. It feels like the franchise was sold off to a company that is only interested in milking as many dollars out of the player base as they can. I wouldn't recommend this to anybody. Even if you are specifically looking for a city painter, there are better options out there than this. It hurts to say, but one of my favorite franchises has just been turned into garbage.
Shameful in every meaning of the word - horrible performance (have to play on low-medium = 80%-100% gpu usage respectively) - on debian with proton: crashes and bad performance - on windows 10: fewer crashes but same bad performance, slightly smoother camera movement - Very poor base content. (even worse if you compare with CS1) - constant bugs and crashes - dlcs and expansion packs are insanely overpriced and content is very poor too - instead of working on known bugs and issues reported by entire community, they keep pushing more "additional content" Ive been checking the state of game since it was released, so i can predict without fear that this game is not going to improve
300+ hours of gameplay. you'll be frustrated and disappointed at how much you enjoy this game. the concept of the overall game is perfect. spend your time developing and watching your city grow. the only issue is this game is chock full of bugs. gameplay is impossible without the lane connector mod. and when they patch one bug a side effect from the patch creates another. its extremely frustrating feeling like you have to start from scratch again after spending hours developing a city only to find there's some new bug you have to work around that you could not have foresaw. i love the game but the lack of support can be frustrating at times. it does feel like the devs are at least trying. its just taking a lot longer then it should. 6/10
Great city building game so far. Since there's new ones coming in the future. There is tons of modifications and stylization of your chosen region. Graphics are ok. Better than Sim city. I'm not just that good of a city planner and designer. But this game has all the tools and dlcs you will need.
