Chrono Port : Heroes of All Time is a free turn based RPG built around time travel and collecting heroes from different periods of history. I play as a young boy who gets involved with the Chrono Porter, a device that lets me travel through time and bring different heroes together to fight a growing threat. The idea immediately sounds like something I should enjoy because I am moving between different eras and putting together a team made up of completely different characters. It has that simple mobile RPG feeling to it, but there is enough here to make the basic setup worth exploring. The hero collection is probably the biggest part of the game for me. There are more than 60 heroes to collect, and they are not all supposed to fill the same role. I can build teams around tanks, healers and damage dealers, then improve them through skill trees and equipment. I like having to think about how the team fits together because a strong character on their own is not always enough. The 3 versus 3 battles also keep things fairly easy to understand, while still giving me room to experiment with different combinations. The time travel setting is easily my favourite thing about the presentation. I can visit different worlds based around different periods and styles, so the game has a chance to keep changing the scenery instead of trapping me in one fantasy setting. It also gives the character collection a reason to exist because I am not just recruiting random fantasy heroes. The whole point is bringing people from different eras together. I think that is a much more interesting concept than another standard fantasy RPG with the same collection of knights, mages and monsters. The biggest problem for me is that the actual combat is quite basic. I am still working with a fairly familiar turn based system where I choose attacks and abilities and try to make the best team possible. Once I understand how the characters work, the battles can start feeling more like checking whether my team is strong enough rather than making really clever decisions every turn. The character progression gives me plenty of numbers to improve, but sometimes I feel like I am upgrading because the game expects me to rather than because I have discovered some new way to play. I also think the game can feel a little too much like a mobile RPG even though I am playing it on PC. There are lots of characters to collect, equipment to upgrade and systems built around gradually making my team stronger. I do like having a lot of progression because it gives me reasons to keep playing, but it can also become repetitive when I am spending a lot of time improving characters just so I can move on to the next area. The fact that it is free makes this easier to accept, but I still think the game could have done more to make the moment to moment gameplay interesting. The amount of content does help, though. There are many different worlds to work through, a large roster of heroes and plenty of equipment and upgrades to chase. I can put together different teams and try different roles instead of relying on one group for everything. I also like that the game is completely focused on single player progression, so I can take my time and work through it without worrying about keeping up with anyone else. It feels more like something I can slowly chip away at rather than a game I need to rush through. Overall, Chrono Port : Heroes of All Time has a good idea behind it and enough content to keep me busy for a while. I really like the time travel concept, the large selection of heroes and the ability to build different teams around different roles. The combat is fairly straightforward and the mobile style progression can become repetitive, so it never reaches the level of my favourite turn based RPGs. Still, the combination of history, time travel and hero collecting gives it a bit of personality, and the free price makes it easy for me to spend some time seeing how far I can take my team.
