CHAM THE CAT ADVENTURE

As others said, it's very much a take on Super Mario Land with stages following the same theming and often including similar secrets. The big, ruinous issue are the physics. The jump has almost no curve to it and the run practically no momentum but the main problem is that your hitbox is significantly smaller than your sprite. Great in a shmup where you don't want to be touched, terrible in a game where the whole point is landing on something. You'll fall off a platform much earlier than it looks like and the majority of my deaths in the one playthrough I made were due to falling off when trying to jump off a platform. Platformers are about making jumping fun and the jumping in this feels terrible.

　ゲームボーイのスーパーマリオランド風のアクションゲーム。 　マリオランド風のステージ構成に悪魔城風の攻撃方法があるアクションになります。 　難易度は低め、1時間程度でクリアが可能なゲームで気軽に遊べるアクションゲームになってるので、おすすめです。

This one is a 'Yes' but with caveats. Baseline here is clearly Mario styled games. It doesn't even try to hide the fact that Mario is the inspiration. But there are differences: Pro: - Secrets, like so many secrets and placed sometimes so roughly they become a hindrance as you hit your head on invisible blocks all the time. Someone with a enterprising spirit should make guides where the secrets are. Starting from World 2-1 and forward they are not that straightforward to find. Annoying but intriguing also. Make random jumps to places and lo and behold likely there is a secret, but also perhaps a secret beyond that. Finding that top level exit key can get interesting. - Heart upgrades spice things. Bonus levels. 1UPs placed strategically before tough spots can give you a life line if you are having problems. - Generally a game that seems to reward trying out things to advance. Not bad for a small game like this. Saving system though is a hindrance here but you got Continues also after all lives are spent. - Pretty decent game on it's own. It doesn't just ride on Game Boy green-screen nostalgia too much. Con: - Platforming is harder. There are puzzles where you need to jump and land on a square and from there either jump again or drop down a square and jump again accurately. You get tons of extra lives but they are just as easily spent too with this kind of platforming so this is not that easy as it looks once you advance a bit further. - Bugs. Underground rooms that you cannot exit from -> Back to save point. - Limited menu controls. May follow the Game Boy theme but still i don't really care for no proper exit from the game and Esc for fullscreen is a function i would pass. I don't quite agree on normal price 5.89€ but any discount price and this one is worth it.

This blatantly mimics much about Super Mario Land, from the level themes to the UI layout to the bosses to World 2-3 being an underwater shmup (that's the level I just finished before writing this). I think the trailer makes it pretty clear that this is all the game aspires to do, though, and it doesn't outright copy levels and it even offers new mechanics (character has a whip when health isn't low, health bar instead of mushroom or flower powerups, and there are hidden keys for getting the bonus stage), so it's not a 1:1 ripoff. Recommended on sale, it's a solid piece of fun if you liked SML and you just want more of that; just don't expect a meaty adventure.
