Note: Portraits are not enabled in the full game release as of right now. After much consideration, I came to the conclusion that they just didn't fit right in the UI or match the style of the game well enough. In a future update, I may enable them again when I feel they match the game better.
Cavernreach is a first-person, story-driven cave exploration adventure.
Play as Grant, a contracted caver sent to survey a newly discovered cave system and locate two missing explorers. What begins as a routine expedition quickly spirals into a mystery far greater than anyone anticipated.
Explore vast underground chambers, navigate flooded passages, and uncover secrets hidden deep beneath the Earth. As you descend deeper into the darkness, you'll discover that some places were never meant to be found.
Venture through a vast underground world filled with towering caverns, flooded tunnels, hidden passages, and breathtaking subterranean landscapes.
Use climbing ropes to descend into the depths, navigate the cave system, and uncover new routes as your expedition pushes further into the unknown. From glowing crystal chambers to immense underground abysses, every new discovery reveals just how much of the cave system remains unexplored.
Not everything hidden within the cave system can be explained.
As Grant pushes deeper underground, he encounters strange symbols, impossible discoveries, and evidence that someone, or something, has been here long before his arrival. The trail left behind by the missing cavers leads toward mysteries that challenge everything he thought he knew.
The deeper you descend, the more apparent it becomes that the greatest danger may not be getting lost in the darkness, but uncovering what has been hidden there all along.
The cave was never the destination.
Buried beneath miles of rock and hidden from the world lies an impossible discovery, whose existence defies explanation. Strange technology, forgotten structures, and clues left behind by those who came before suggest that something far greater has been hidden beneath the Earth for a very long time.
As Grant pushes forward, the line between exploration and obsession begins to blur. The truth is waiting below, but some discoveries come with consequences.
The deeper Grant ventures, the clearer one thing becomes:
It was never built to hide a secret.
It was built to contain one.
As the truth begins to emerge, Grant finds himself standing at the center of a mystery with consequences that reach far beyond the cave itself. What started as a survey and the search for two missing cavers becomes a desperate attempt to understand a hidden truth before it's too late.
Or is it already too late?
Cavernreach is a paced, exploration-driven experience with minimal guidance. There are no objective markers or maps. Progress comes from observation, memory, and curiosity.

Alright. Cavernreach is done and dusted. This is a pretty traditional story driven walking sim with some lite traversal puzzles and a splash of platforming. In this game, you are a professional spelunker tasked with mapping an unexplored cave system. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3787195331 Pretty early on, this turns into a search and rescue mission as you find out that a couple amateur cave divers had gone missing here only a few days earlier. With that as the story backdrop, you dive further and further into this cave system, both trying to map out these mostly virgin caves while also trying to find the lost cavers. However, as you progress, a new mystery reveals itself. Turns out, the First Nations People had been aware of these caves and interacted with them in the past. And a group of miners had also plunged into its depths about eighty years earlier. Without spelunking into spoiler territory, I'll just say that this game leans heavily into Christian mythology tied together with native folklore and presents a surprisingly...ummm...dark tale which weaves ancient past with present and offers some fun technological twists throughout. And a fresh perspective on some of those silly tales our religions offer IRL. One that is still on the silly side but is perhaps a splash more believable. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3787195317 The gameplay of exploring this cave system, through sumps and winding mazelike tunnels, and into large caverns with amazing crystal growth and other cool visuals, is pretty impressive. This isn't AAA gaming, and you shouldn't expect that level of graphical fidelity, but what it offers is a thought-provoking look at what could be, and what you could potentially find as an explorer. It's a very cool setting which I've long been fascinated with in general. Traversal is pretty seamless overall outside of some of the narrower sections, where you might get stuck on rocks and have to find the exact perfect spot to get past them. The platforming is actually well thought out, and it turns out that shift jumping is this game's version of a long jump. No need to run and jump. Simply press shift and spacebar together. I liked that a lot. That mechanic simplified things for me. There are a couple things that were irksome about the game, however. For one, while presented in a very believable fashion, your mouse sensitivity while crouching or crawling isn't optimal from a gaming perspective. Also, there are no manual saves and the gap is too wide, especially early-game, between autosave points. IMO. Also, certain objects can only be interacted with while crouching and are sensitive to being in the exact correct position to trigger the interactions. It's just a splash too fickle. My last complaint is late-game optimization. There's a lot going on, on-screen, towards the end of the game, and the game froze several times during those final sequences. It never crashed, but just something for the dev to look at if he has time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3788033614 Overall, it actually took me right around four hours to complete the game with my remaining in-game time being me forgetting to close the game when I was running errands, lol. I think this is one of the more enjoyable walking sims I've played, with a very underutilized setting, cool lore, and nice visuals. It's well worth a look. https://youtu.be/kdAKvDfCZV4 This one took me a bit because i kept getting lost on my own accord, but this game was amazing. One of the best story rich adventure horror games ive ever had the pleasure of playing. Very well done. {Gameplay above}
I played the demo and wanted to see what happened next. The story kept me wanting to see where it all led to. I'll say that I was pleased with this game and the story. It was neat and a somewhat fresh take for story driven games, and I didn't expect the ending at all. The integration of the different mechanics was cool. Instead of just walking around everywhere, I was happy there was the diving mechanic. While it doesn't have a first person character to see, I don't feel it took anything away from the gameplay. After all, I think the developer wanted to create a cool story over fancy extras. And I will say that in my opinion they succeeded. It's not flashy compared to other more high end games, and some parts you might get a little lost, but to me that's the point. It is an unexplored cave after all. There's not really any handholding down there, which makes you think a lot kinda like some older games, which I found refreshing. The environment had some neat parts where it got a little freaky. If you are a hardcore horror game fan, it might not be scary to you. But some parts did give off creepy vibes. There was something that I know wanted to come after me down there. Overall, it's a pretty good game with a pretty good story by a solo dev. Well worth the $8 for some hours of enjoyment and something a little different than the games that seem to be the same story just on a different map these days. Not bad. Not bad at all. I'll recommend it. Looking forward to the next one!
Great game so far. I'm really enjoying the story. It's different, but good. Some things have changed since I played the demo last, but it seems the developer improved on their vision for the game. My only complaint is the save system. The game saves automatically, and some of the save points are kind of far apart in the story. So if you stop playing between save points you have to pick up where you left off at the past save point and do some replay. Overall, I think it's well worth the money the dev is charging. I haven't made it to the end yet, but I look forward to it. There was also a few creepy parts added in, if you get scared super easy. But so far no jump scares. No bugs so far.
