I had to do a double take as I thought there were no hidden cats at all, but lo and behold, they're just VERY well hidden, for once. Solid game, and it's free so, no harm in giving it a try.

100 easy achievements

Very short hidden find. Easy to get all achievements once game is complete there is no replay value as the cats dont change locations upon restarting. My husband is very strong protan colorblindness and yes it was difficult for him to see the cats but he was still able to see them so color blind people may struggle with the cats as they are colored like the building or whatever they are up against. Not Bad for a Free to Play game was a nice 25 mins to play and sip my coffee.

Cat Search In The Wild West is exactly the kind of small game I can sit down with when I want something simple and relaxing. The whole idea is that I explore a hand drawn Wild West town looking for hidden cats. There are 100 cats to find, along with five cat outlaws and five wanted posters, so the goal is basically to pay attention to every little part of the screen. There is no complicated story or difficult system getting in the way, which I think suits this type of game really well. The searching itself is simple but surprisingly satisfying. Some cats are sitting in obvious places while others are tucked away on rooftops, inside buildings or blended into the scenery. I have to properly look around instead of just clicking randomly, and finding one that I completely missed earlier gives me that small feeling of accomplishment that hidden object games are supposed to create. The Wild West setting also gives the single location enough personality to make exploring it enjoyable rather than feeling like I am just searching through a blank background. I also like the extra things hidden around the town. The five cat outlaws and five wanted posters give me something else to keep an eye out for once I start getting close to completing the main collection. There are also ten hints available if I get stuck, which I think is a good way of handling difficulty. I can try to find everything myself first and only use a hint when I have genuinely run out of ideas. The meowing sound effects are a small detail, but they fit the silly theme and make finding cats a little more satisfying. The biggest problem is that there is not much more to the game once I have found everything. The 100 cats sound like a lot at first, but the basic activity never really changes. I am still looking around the same Wild West town for another hidden cat. That is not necessarily a flaw because the game is clearly designed around being a short hidden object experience, but it does mean I cannot expect much depth or long term progression. Once I have finished the collection, there is not much reason for me to keep playing unless I simply want to revisit the town. The hand drawn art does a lot of the work here. I like the colourful cartoon style because it makes the town pleasant to look at and gives the cats plenty of funny places to hide. The simple presentation also means I can focus on searching without having loads of visual effects distracting me. There are 100 Steam achievements tied into finding the cats and other hidden things, which fits the collection focused design nicely, although I see those more as an extra reason to complete everything rather than a major gameplay feature. What makes the game easy for me to recommend is that it is completely free and does not try to turn a very simple idea into something unnecessarily complicated. I can start it, explore the town and slowly work through the collection at my own pace. There is no pressure to rush and no complicated progression system that I need to understand. It knows exactly what it is trying to be, and I think that works in its favour. Overall, Cat Search In The Wild West is a cute and relaxing hidden object game that does exactly what I expect from it. I like the hand drawn Wild West setting, the different hiding spots, the extra outlaws and wanted posters, and the fact that I can take my time looking for everything. The limited gameplay variety and short overall experience stop me from rating it much higher, but I do not think it needs to be a huge game to be enjoyable. For a free little game that gives me a calm reason to explore a funny western town, I think it does its job very well. Rating: 7.5/10
