Fluff Squad! Assemble!
Button City is a relatively obscure 2021 indie title from Albuquerque, New Mexico studio "Subliminal", published in collaboration with "Wings". The game can be roughly described as a wholesome, 3D, narrative, pont and click adventure title, where a new, shy, but compassionate kid in town strives to discover friends, win highscores at the arcade, help his new community and save the arcade (the titular "Button City") from being shutdown by corporate greed. Button City's incredible minimalist dioramic environmental style is nothing short of amazing and the humor always lands for at least a good smirk or chuckle. The writing is solid, the characters great and surprisingly multifaceted and the minigames, music, character designs, names and overall game presentation are superbly cozy. I loved all of my nine hours spent in Button City and the 5.87 Euro sale price feels downright like stealing. I'll be purchasing future titles by this developer and I hope you give them a chance, too! This one tugged on my heartstrings! Also, if you like this game, feel free to wishlist "Button City: Soccer Days" here on Steam, to support the developers!
Many Thanks To Subliminal & Wings For This Fantastically Unique Piece of Art <3
There's something about the vibe of this game that I just really enjoy. The movement is kinda jank and really frustrated me at times but the story was cute, the music was nice, and the vibe was great. Worth a buy on sale.
I bought this game because of the cute low poly look and I really enjoyed this game!! Its such a cute and silly story line and the mini games in the game are so much fun!! It feels like a silly story about being the coolest kid in the suburbs and city and all the side stories it includes are lots of fun
Pros - Pleasant art-style - Charming world, dialog and characters. - Simple but engaging main story with some side quests that are arguably more interesting. - Mostly playable with the mouse, you will need keyboard for the mini-games although these are mostly optional apart from a couple of times you will need to play the main mini game to continue the story. The main mini-game is a kind of spin on the capture the flag or that basketball format from unreal tournament. Its 4v4 in an arena and you need to collect fruit from trees which spawn in the outer parts of the arena and drop them in a blender in the center of the arena all while avoiding getting shot by other npc players and bots. Its very basic but its enjoyable all the same. For this mini-game there is a selection of different characters you and play with different stats and classes. Like there are tank characters and ranged characters and ones that have more damage but less speed and that sort of thing. Again there is really no dept but its fun for what it is. Unfortunately the player assigned character is arguably the worst character in the game. While you can swap characters for optional games, the story driven games will always assign this same character, Anyway as mentioned you only need to play this game a couple of times if its not your cup of tea. - The bulk of the game-play is mostly a bunch of fetch quests, talk to character A, go to location B, pick up item C and go to character D. etc. There is a few very simple puzzles and as mentioned there are optional (mostly) mini-games. Overall its a nice chill experience and doesn't get boring. The quirky characters and charming dialog do a lot of the heavy lifting. Cons - The award for most of the side quests is some wearable or trinket. Some of these can be used as modifiers within the optional mini-games but mostly they are kind of useless as they don't help in the main game. Also as far as I can tell in the main game the wearable s in particular are just for aesthetics but strangely you can only wear one item at a time. - A couple of freezes but luckily the auto-save prevented much loss of progress. The cons are kind of a nitpick. Overall the game is very enjoyable.
It's like playing through a kids cartoon. Very cute and chill.
Thank you!!! This game is fun and right up my alley. I enjoy the art style, characters, theme, the arcade is fun also. Good soundtrack! I'm in!
I haven't played for long, but I wouldn't recommend it at all to anyone who might be sensitive to motion sickness. When you start the game, you can't go to settings yet, and the camera's auto rotation immediately made me sick. As soon as the settings was available, I turned it off, but the camera still moves slightly as you move around. I can't play for long at all because it's triggering my motion sickness really badly, so just be warned if you're sensitive to it too.
Very cute little game! Charming characters, heartwarming low-stakes story, and pleasant aesthetics. I can easily recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy story-based game!
