This game turned me into maniac that I didn't know lived inside me. I spent many nights carefully copying notes, clues, and puzzles into a journal that I exclusively used while playing this game. When I wasn't playing Blue Prince on my steam deck, I was pouring over that journal trying to decipher some disjointed clues I found on a previous run. Ultimately, I found myself so emotionally invested that this deceptively deep puzzle game damn near had me in tears on more than one occasion. Avoid spoilers, use the clues in the game to discover the lore. And have a memorable time.
Yes
peak puzzle experience, cant recommend enough if not spoiled about it
I am obsessed. Don't start this game if you have any other commitments you need to keep.
This is possibly the best puzzle game that I have ever played! It has a great array of types of puzzles and doesn't smack you in the face with them, so even figuring out what the puzzles are is itself a puzzle! It's a fascinating story, and I love that I'm not overly pressured by artificial time constraints or combat. I long for more games like this!
its a good game, but the length of this game is entirely dependent on luck or whenever the game decides to give you the right combination of tools to do what you want to do. ive solved like two general mysteries and theres a list of like 12 more than im trying to get to, but i cant get to those remaining mysteries without a specific layout or specific rooms. its kind of annoying. the game is essentially balatro x outer wilds. you start over from basically scratch every day except a handful of things that you learn or thigns that remain in place and you are reliant on what rooms the game randomly gives you each draw. there is one room to room combination that ive found to be consistent drawn back to back. other than that, its pure luck of the draw and like i said, if you are trying to go after a handful of specific layouts and you just arent provided those room that run, its all for naught. i was lead to believer this was a puzzle game. it isnt. im not super upset by that realization, but it is a bit of a let down. the "puzzles" in this game are either small room specific little reward puzzles or general overarching mysteries that are less of a puzzle and more of a 'you have to connect the dots via learning specific things by getting specific room layouts or combinations.' it is what it is. i like the game, but the hours you spend on this game are purely dependent on getting the rooms you need on any given day.
fun game that makes you use your brain
It's like Outer Wilds but house
Have been playing this game for months on and off and is genuinely one of the most rewarding experiences in recent memory, 50 hours in and still discovering secrets and pulling back layers. Play this game if you're on the fence!!
FULL GAME SPOILERS
Blue Prince is without doubt the best game I have played in my entire life. It is perfect in literally every aspect. The core gameplay loop of drafting rooms, resource management and decision making is so well-designed it never gets boring. Even with 100+ hours of gameplay, day 1 runs for all achievements felt fun, which is rarely the case when replaying other games. The RNG elements make runs fresh and exciting, but can still be manipulated with some knowledge about the game. Every run you are able to make some progress by learning something about some room. As the process of learning is slow and long, it makes moments like reaching the antechamber or opening one of its doors feel extremely rewarding. The satisfying moment of all pieces finally falling in the correct place and being able to open Room 46 is the best moment I have ever felt playing any game. One of the reasons for that was also the emotional aspect of the ending - Blue Prince's lore is built on the saying of "less is more". Instead of overwhelming the player with paragraphs of lore, Blue Prince takes its time to explain its wonderful universe. Finding the small pieces of lore scattered across the game feels incredibly exciting. The cinematic ending cutscene finally connects those pieces in an incredibly satisfying way. The puzzles in this game don't even feel like puzzles as they are so seamlessly integrated into the world. Let it be solving a parlor game for gems, turning pipes in the boiler room, opening a Mora Jai box or Solving the Gallery - it feels like you're just interacting with the world and not just solving puzzles for the sake of the puzzles themselves (as many other "puzzle games" make me feel). The puzzles are also incredibly creative and innovative and fit the narrative perfectly. The game never fails to surprise you and deliver satisfying moments - discovering the outer room or Blackbridge Grotto, watching Alzara visions, taking the Exam, solving the gallery and room 8, figuring out the sanctums, ascending the throne, reading the book drafts, solving the Atelier... There are so many surprises and the game doesn't slow its pace down until far after rolling the credits. The amount of high quality content this game has is absurd. It would be a crime not to mention the clean and simple art style of the game - every single room and model looks simply beautiful. I would even dare to call it the best looking game I have ever played. The soundtrack is also nothing short of breathtaking. It perfectly describes the mysterious atmosphere of exploration - Secret garden, Under the Blackbridge, Inneclipse and Reclamation are one of my favorite OSTs ever. Even though I think this game is perfect, there are some little details that slightly bothered me: - The screen blacking out after using a shovel on a dig spot is extremely annoying. - I don't like how there is a way with room upgrades to get infinite stars and allowance. - I don't like the MAY8 safe combination - opening it felt like bruteforcing it. - I think there should be more hints towards the true ending and obtaining the scepter.
Truly the game of a lifetime to me, 10/10
