If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. A pokemon-like game for this cheap? I'll start with whats good about it -- the concept and some of the graphics. But you'll find that most of the positives you expected to find don't exist, and are instead "could haves." Some of the humor is entertaining, the premise would have been fun if I could have progressed far enough to see it reach some sort of conclusion. Catch rates are just God awful. You're more likely to open a booster pack with all excellent cards playing Pokemon TCG pocket for free than catch any mon. Dude wanted me to catch the ugly Capy thing, I got it down to 1 hp and used the gourd (their version of the pokeball) and fail. I kept using it, failed again and again. I had one mon at this point, and no knowledge of any healing items, so I had to finish the thing off before it killled me after going through my entire gourd supply. It's infuriating, especially since you kind of need to be able to catch certain ones to, you know, get anywhere in this. Throw on top of that the typical "you don't get any storage options until your absolutely teeming with important junk and at that point you don't have room to carry it" situation. I love trying to figure out a juggling act that will let me craft a chest while i'm weighed down by junk. And then theres the way obvious problems with in game actions like chopping trees or hitting rocks. You can hit the tree or rock once, not move even the slightest and the next swing your character misses and every one after that until you awkwardly move around to find a spot where he can hit it again. This becomes especailly annoying when you plant your mon-crops, because I couldn't even get him to target the ones who needed attention and at that point I had enough and rage quit the game before i ended up breaking my keyboard. It sucks this could have been good but just absolutely isnt..

I really want to like this game, and I hope I can update this review later. As it is, the early game lacks direction and resources (I don't understand what the balance is supposed to be), the capture odds are terrible (check the discussion boards, there are already multiple horrible captures), and there are multiple minor things that should have been caught in playtesting (Non-English text, the feed item still being named Fantamon, the fact that ledges look jumpable by map design but you can't jump ledges making traversal more difficult, instances of menu and prompt text appearing to have placeholder names such as OpenUI, and having to move away and then back to finish crafting an item to pick it up.) A chunk of my playtime right now is just me idling and waiting for energy to regenerate and/or Bloomon to produce. Potential skill issue, and it is a good feature, but I hope this isn't the intended playstyle. Resource gathering is also very frustrating with how often tools break and how rare coal is early on. The positives? The premise and core gameplay concept are good, the art is very nice, I haven't had any issues with the battle system, and the music is pleasant. This game has potential, it just needs a bit more guidance, some balance patches, and a detail-oriented playtester. Also, lack of controller support is frustrating as someone who prefers to play on Steam Deck. But it's $2, so if you're really looking for a game with farming and capture mechanics, you might still get some fun out of it. I haven't dropped it yet, obviously :P
I picked Bloomon up for about $2, so I wasn't exactly going into it expecting some huge polished experience. For that price, it's honestly okay. It's playable, there are some decent ideas here, and I wouldn't call it a bad game. But it definitely feels unfinished and tedious in places. The intro was probably the most jarring part. Some of the cutscene dialogue goes by way too fast, and there are still what look like placeholder names in the text, with things like "[water-type Bloomon]" and "[fire-type Bloomon]" showing up instead of actual Bloomon names. I can forgive a lot from a cheap game, but I figured the opening of the game would at least be finished. NPC dialogue is also kind of annoying. If an NPC has multiple dialogue options, you can only follow one branch before the conversation closes completely. Then you have to talk to them again to pick another option instead of it just taking you back to the main dialogue choices. The game also doesn't do a very good job explaining some of its mechanics. Planting Bloomon took me a while to figure out. You have to go to the tiled soil, press E, then drag the Bloomon you want all the way down to the husbandry tile at the bottom of the menu. After that you feed it, water it, and wait for it to produce items. Once you understand it, it works fine, but the game really should explain that better. I've seen some reviews complaining about the catch rate, but I haven't had too much trouble as long as I get the Bloomon's HP low first. Greasemon gave me a lot more trouble, although I'm not sure if it needs a better Gourd, a status effect like paralysis, or if it's just supposed to be harder to catch. Overall, Bloomon is just okay. For $2, I don't feel ripped off, and I've definitely played worse games. There are some decent ideas underneath it, but the lack of polish, poor explanations, awkward UI choices, and general tediousness keep me from really recommending it. If you get it dirt cheap and the concept looks interesting to you, you might get some enjoyment out of it. Just go in expecting a rough game rather than a hidden gem.
Nice idea. Obviously spent wayyyyy too long on map design instead of actual gameplay. Tasks are broken, you can't catch certain beasts, prices of goods is out of whack (just sell dirt to make your millions), basic functionality of Bloomons doesn't work..... If it weren't so cheap I'd call it a rip-off.... shame.. there's definitely some possibility there.
I love it! Quite fun and so cute!
excuse me i paid only a £1 for this masterpiece? this is already looking to be hours of fun i can tell. well fun until trying to catch that darn greasebeast haha.
surprised it's being sold for so cheap, the concept is pretty solid. although it seems like it was released under strange conditions; i've bought it but i'm getting reminders to wishlist the game in the start screen and when i quit.
Honestly? A solid 6.5 out of 10. Gameplay is getting there. Farming is getting there. The main complaint is the actual capture rate on some of the Bloomons. The Eggloom in particular catch rate is atrocious. Seriously? 65 gourds and still no capture? So we save scum and it takes probably 200 or more total. I have had better odds with Legendaries in other games. The tutorial could use a bit of work as it is a bit frustrating trying to figure things out on your own, but hey, we got there in the end. I will keep playing this, but it does still need some work. There are still test mons that show up, the "wonder trade" lady is awesome, however some texts still come up in chinese on the english version.
