This is probably the best Bomberman-like from the past two console generations, The devs have clearly played their fair share of Power Bomberman, and they've added several tweaks and wrinkles to make this game feel like it's own, for starters the characters have different abilities that feel thoughtfully implemented in comparison to something like Super Bomberman R where abilities don't feel like a balanced idea beyond specific modes like grand prix or battle 64 if even there. Bomberman games really need more variables when it comes to things like this, so that is much appreciated. Punch is now a universal tool and you can hold it to adjust how far bombs and even other players fly when hit. Personally this mechanic might end up a little too chaotic for my tastes but I do think Bomberman games should probably experiment with making punch, kick, and power glove tools you start with as they are so inherently important to the game that not having them can feel like a crapshoot in a vs battle, so I appreciate this being here, and its just one more thing to make itself distinct from its inspirations. A brilliant feature I never knew I wanted are the intermissions, fun minigames that will occur between a set number of rounds you choose, that will award a victory to whoever comes out on top, In Bomberman depending on the player count, sets can take a LONG time to finish if most players are competent, so having mini games in between not only adds in a fresh objective, but it also speeds up the flow of sets while keeping everyone engaged, and they give chances to players who might not be the best at bombing, they are enabled by choice too so if that's not your preferred way to play you're fine to be rid of them! The modes are about on par with Power Bomberman or the Gamecube Bomberman entries which is great with me thats a good amount of variety and a solid pedigree, and there are plenty of advanced settings too letting you adjust bomb detonation times, whether or not screen wrap is enabled, specials, whether or not explosions or instant or spread over a set number of frames, you've got the works. The last comment I'll make on the gameplay from my time with it is that the stage variety is excellent and very imaginative, both in terms of gimmicks and visuals/themes, there are a few that definitely feel drafted at least conceptually from games I've already mentioned but the game doesn't do them bar for bar so they feel like their own regardless. The presentation is incredible here it actually makes the most recent Bomberman entries look embarrassing especially because this is free, animations are cartoony and colorful, gorgeous yet visceral, characters are packed with personality via their animations and odd voices, and the soundtrack feels appropriate for what this game contains though there are surprise bangers like a Streets of Rage inspired track that caught me off guard, I also must shout out how interactive the menus are here I adore it. This is incredible for a free game and honestly I would've been happy to pay for it if it were to have online multiplayer and/or some kind of story/normal game, that being said I should just put my bias on full display, I'd love this a lot more if it was literally Bomberman, despite it's smaller scope it feels so much more soulful and like a real effort compared to the SBR titles, and it shows just a bit of how much more growing you can still do with traditional Bomberman. But Bomberman's iconic character designs and influences, it's history, it's got so much to work with I would adore seeing characters like Bomberman, Black Bomber, Pink Bomber, MAX, Honey, Dr. Ein, Louies, Tirras etc etc. presented in something this polished and given a more thought out narrative to back it up. Dotemu please consider picking up that license, making a deal with Konami whatever you gotta do, because I feel like if this had online multiplayer and the actual Bomberman license, the surprise announcement of this game may have garnered more attention and had heads rolling. Of course that is no fault to Blasterbug! my time with it just made me realize I'd really like it and trust Dotemu with a new Bomberman entry.

Bomberman but with bugs!
WHY IS THIS FREE, WHY IS THIS SO GOOD, I LOVE THIS SO MUCH BUT... WHY???
I guess you should never question when something as good as a Bomberman inspired game, with genuinely inspired and fun character designs, lovingly crafted with so many fun details and a level of visual polish that makes the lack of any price tag feel legitimately criminal, EVENE MORE SO, when it seems that they're already hinting at more characters being added down the line. I LOVE THIS AND YOU SHOULD PLAY IT YOU HAVE NO REASON NOT TO. My only negative is the lack of online play, if this had online, even if it was a couple bucks to justify it, throw in those hinted at characters that arent playable but are in the stickers and randomly in the hub and i would have no issue coughing up cash for this. This is just a labour of love and a fun time, but steam remote play is the only thing holding this back... just give me online and this is better than power bomberman which is SAYING SOMETHING...
It’s insane this game is free, so much charm and personality. Bought the DLC to support them and because I love Absolum
Actually crazy its free. Level of polish you'd expect from dotemu. I hope this game gets more reception to eventually include online multiplayer cus thats the only thing it's lacking. Pretty sure everyone would gladly pay for it too.
I'm not much of a bomberman but played dynablaster a lot as a kid and this iteration is simply fantastic, though not without its faults. not a mouse-based game but no mouse controls in the menus is still bad, along with space to select instead of enter, which is for pausing while playing. controls are mostly rebindable (enter and u/i can't be changed) but player selection is still finicky. press space to add one, then select bug, then space again, then shift to add cpu, then u/i instead of arrows to select level, then space again, repeat as needed, hold g to remove a player, and finally enter to start if there are at least 2 players. one key (w by default) to place bombs and haul ass before they explode, another (x by default) to punch stuff, including bombs. can be held to charge the attack and cause more damage. has some languages, separate volumes, windowed mode, resolutions, v-sync, various gamepad buttons to show on the ui (keyboard otherwise), settings for screenshake, blood and player outline, plus toggles for reduced flashing, how to play pop-up when a level starts, and more blood customization. gibberish and no instant text display are further annoyances, the former just about tolerable, heard worse, as is the latter because it's relatively fast, plus there's not a lot of either. still, turning them off should be possible. the pause menu only has volume settings. local multiplayer (or online through remote play) against real people if you know any or cpu opponents. the 5 highly customizable game modes can be played in teams or as individuals. set timer between 5 and 300 seconds, win count between 1 and 11, plus self-damage protection, flame spread, fuse duration, walk speed, specials and bomb warp-around on/off, intermission (mini-game) frequency from only mini-games to never and the amount of power-ups. the 5 modes are death battle (last bug standing), coin battle (for the greedy), paint battle (cover the arena with explosions), crown battle (capture the flag) and party battle (random rounds with random modifiers). the 4 mini-games are replayable for coins. punch battle (no bombs, it's okay), gerbil race (go fast and avoid obstacles, didn't like it), basket pom (dunk bombs into toilets, fun) and bubble bugs (no bombs, avoid going down the drain, the worst one and often ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I lost in the same place the opponent didn't). while main winnings are awarded instantly, having to really slowly walk around and collect extra coins is tedious. each is worth 5 and even the loser can grab them, so it's not something to forfeit, as some of the arenas and bugs with their own special abilities need to be unlocked with cash and each costs more than the last. the bug yard holds an interactive tutorial and soon after a test room for all the power-ups, including mounts and every unlocked character's special, a shop to buy gacha balls for stickers that don't do anything but can be viewed, also in full screen, in the collections room. and finally, the music room puts the soundtrack at your command. could use some work but it's more than fine as is, a lot of fun even against the computer, and honestly have no idea why it's free. not a demo disguised as a free game with the full version sold as dlc either, for 2 eur you only get an extra character on top of the 15 in the base game and another arena on top of the 15 already included. bought it as soon as I could tear myself away from the game after more than an hour.
es un crimen que sea gratis.-
